Royal Portuguese Reading Room in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

through the tears and very loud sobbing, am posting this for posterity:

❝ In 1860, an enslaved man named Sheppard Peek was listed among the possessions of William Peek, a white man in Crawfordville.

His value was placed at $1,400.

On another surviving document, Sheppard signed his name with an X.

More than a century and a half later, Sheppard’s great-great-granddaughter, Keisha Lance Bottoms, was elected governor of Georgia.❞

Astrophotographer and teacher Brendan Larsen spent 2 hours taking 578 photos of one section of sky in New Zealand to see how satellites are changing our night skies. Take a look at these shocking images that reveal their impact.

In a departure lounge. Lady sits next to us with a T-shirt that reads “Introvert but will chat about otters”. Just had a conversation about Canadian Giant Otters.

So that was nice.

Renewing my boost of this excellent set of resources on a set of updates.

I have a pen that can write underwater.

It can also write other words too.

Very excited today as I’m on my way to my first ever Comic Con for a panel on the music of the Horizon video games.

@siracusa I just heard the most recent ATP, and hearing you talk about the trans ATP shirts and your effort in choosing charities was really amazing - thank you so much.

Very sad today on the news that BioWare has been closed down, closing the book on a peerless history.

I’m Commander Shepard, and one day I’ll find my new favourite store on the Citadel.

Things I’m feeling good about today - organising a watch party for the Discord for Hunt for Red October.

One ping, Vasily. One ping only.

I’m rewatching Casino Royale, which I still think is the canonical modern Bond.

So many incredible lines, but to choose one:

“There are dinner jackets and dinner jackets: this is the latter”.

Morning Mastodon: wherein it’s a crisp sunny morning, I’m about to buy a new coffee press, and have just cracked open a new urban fantasy series where the protagonist has just met the handsome-but-asshole witch she’s stuck with for the duration.

So it’s a good day!
