@hrbrmstr as my resident cyber person, got any recs on tools for vulnerability scanning?

@hrbrmstr just read the daily drop. I’ve got a query about a use case. Do you know if borg lets you delete a file from a set of backups. E.g. I’m no longer working with Tim, I want to delete all his files off my backups.

#rstats another reason to hate excel. Regional settings cause dates to do different things on different computers. Why did you just convert half my dates incorrectly excel? 😡

So this week my team and I attended our industry conference for fundraising. We walked away with an award as consultant of the year. That wouldn’t be possible without the great tool that is #RStats. So to all the people in the community who contribute their time and energy to making #RStats great, thankyou. Our success wouldn’t be possible without this great language and the packages around it.

So I came across a beer today that made me laugh. I wonder if you have to have a drink every time you want to execute as admin.

Has anyone figured out how to set up an automated phone dialer to call energy telemarketing companies to occupy their time and phone lines. I think this would be a great service to humanity. #SpamCalls

Would it be Christmas in Australia without a heat wave? https://c.im/@ABC/115669818603414412

#rstats #data.table :data.table: #lazyweb #helpPlease I’m trying to create a new column from a dynamic set of existing columns where I paste, collapse the columns into a new string. I’ve tried passing a vector of columns to the paste function and using the `env =` programming interface. I can’t get it to work though. I’d love some tips if someone has a spare moment.

It’s 2025 and fruit salad is still what a vegan gets served as dessert at a function room meal. So bad!!!

I think I’m gonna have to start blocking some gen AI terms when linked with #RStats. I’m really not on board with the idea of them and it’s negatively affecting my mood when I see people diving headlong in to adopting them.

Anyone got recommendations on knowledge management software for teams? Open source or able to be self hosted is preferred. I’ve been using outline and would prefer not to pay notion licensing fees, but sometimes finding an effect fit tool comes from word of mouth. #FOSS

Teaching the next generation of #vim users. Have a new team member and all my #rstats stuff runs with keyboard shortcuts, so I have her learning vim so she can make use of the shortcut workflow. 😂

Finally updated my phone, and Liquid Glass looks s#*t

One for the @rstats.me members. With the growing perspective of Bluesky becoming quite toxic, do you have thoughts on seeing posts from there? I’d rather not see it here, but I’ve not actively defederated because I know some #rstats users have setup bridges to share content here, even if they don’t properly interact here.

#rstats looks like https://tidyverse.org has vanished. Either that or they didn’t pay their GitHub bill. Secretly I’m hoping they’re moving it to a codeberg repo and not hosting on MSFT infra, but let’s be honest palintr is a client so …

@adamhsparks so this happened! #ZSA

#rstats recruiting people is hard to do. So much unknown. So much hope that it works out for all parties.

So my bank sends an email saying they’re introducing behavioural security. I need to consent to them tracking my usage of their app. Sounds to me like a “we’ll make it sound like we’re helping you so we can invade your privacy” measure. As someone who works in the measuring behaviour space, this kind of fakery annoys me. Just say you’re nosy and you wanna track stuff.

I’ve been getting so many spam emails saying to connect on WhatsApp lately. There has to be a point at which everyone goes this it’s a dumpster fire of spam and move off the platform. Surely?

#rstats just a little quirk discovered. `round(c(2.5, 3.5))` what do you think you should get?
