Once again there is a lot of Anti-EU-propaganda floating around regarding the #aiact Please, check the text yourself. https://ai-act-service-desk.ec.europa.eu/ In most cases, this does not concern you since you are not *operating* an AI service. Even if you do it's probably not high risk, especially if you're not working with personal data or safety-critical systems. Check article 5 for things that are explicitly forbidden. Check from article 6 on for high risk applications and rules. Check article 50 for transparency rules. #ai

Just found that ETH has an open lecture on robot learning https://cvg.ethz.ch/lectures/Robot-Learning/ by Oier Mees. I started watching the first lecture and I was very much reminded of my own first lectures in 2001. I love the energy, this will be my binge watching over the next weeks. #robotics #ai #autonomoussystems

To the people shouting around about the #EU and #VPN. Have you read the paper? https://www.europarl.europa.eu/thinktank/en/document/EPRS_ATA(2026)782618 Have you read what kind of paper this is? "This document is prepared for, and addressed to, the Members and staff of the European Parliament as background material to assist them in their
parliamentary work. The content of the document is the sole responsibility of its author(s) and any opinions expressed herein should not be taken
to represent an official position of the Parliament."

"[...] the cult of action for
action’s sake. Action being beautiful in itself, it must be taken before, or without, any previous reflection. Thinking is a form of emasculation." Ur-Fascism, Umberto Eco, 1995 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ur-Fascism

Here's a hint for your social media interaction: When you see a controversial post bubbling up and you have this urge to reply or let the world know how controversial it actually is: Stop. Think. Use, e.g., a search engine to understand who it is you are replying to. You might otherwise end up owning the internet as the most ignorant person of the day. Especially when the person you're replying to is a woman, is younger than you or, imagine that, has way more experience than you because they just happen to be the world expert on the topic. Occasionally, all three apply to the same person. You can thank me later... #socialmedia #linkedin

Since a few people had problems today with #bitlocker To get the recovery key from your C drive *before* you are having issues, run "manage-bde -protectors -get c:" in an admin command prompt. This will show you the recovery key in plan text. To get the key *after* bitlocker auto unlock has failed, you may find it on your private Microsoft account, visit https://aka.ms/MyRecoveryKey or you may find it on your company account, visit https://aka.ms/aadrecoverykey There is also a youtube video from Microsoft that walks you through this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drCo-S4_iNs #microsoft #windows

It seems that #Microsoft has decided to remove #WindowsMaps from the store on July 1st, 2025. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/whats-new/deprecated-features-resources and there is no obvious way to export favorites and collections.
So I took a look and found that the information is stored in the App directory under %LocalAppData%\Packages\Microsoft.WindowsMaps_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\Collections in several SQLite database files in subdirectories, all called Collections.db.
Just copy the files out and open them, e.g. with https://sqlitebrowser.org/ The collection entries are kept as varchar JSON strings in a field called JSON in a database called DBItem. Use 'select JSON from DBItem' and then save the output of the query into a new file.

I'm really loving how Mastodon has become a refuge for all the grizzled seafarers on the ocean of the internet. They pop up in my feed and their bios all say something like

"I've been online for longer than the internet. I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. 56k modems on fire in the light of Usenet. I watched IRC forks glitter in the dark near the Gateway 3000. All those moments will be lost in slop, like tears in rain. Time to deshittify."

Oh mate, you made my day with this pic... "Good dog; oh yes, you're the BEST dog. Have more treats!"

Which part of "Don't push to production on Friday" didn't you understand, right before the holidays?: #iOS Live Voicemail default enabled ? #Microsoft 'new' outlook? I feel sorry for all the family #admins who will be busy reverting all the family devices to a usable state in the next days.

Sorry, just felt the urge to rant a little as close to my hometown (in Erding/Bavaria) we had an assembly of protesters against "the government" headed by the prime minister of Bavaria and his minister of economics, pretending to be there for the little guy, preserving the bavarian tradition of smelly oil furnaces in the basement over non-smelly heat pumps, solar panels and wind turbines. In the name of freedom and "technological openness".

The only thing I can say to all the "Make x great again" types is a quote by Douglas Adams: "In those days spirits were brave, the stakes were high, men were real men, women were real women and small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri were real small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri." Those days were as real as the small furry creatures. Progress is real, oil and gas heatings aren't your cultural heritage, nobody in the LGBTQIA+ community is after you, they just want to live and let live.
