and everything worked.
Like I said I feel dirty. ,I always try not to use it but all my searching got me no helpful pointers. 12 (or even 6) months ago I'm certain I would have found an old reddit or stack overflow post with an answer but now search is so broken.
Gemini in this context is pretty much a search engine. Yes it got there but it was just using *it's* full search repo, rather than what google gives to meatspace users.
I do not like this at all
I feel unclean... Had an issue where if I migrated a VM from one proxmox node to another I could not open a spice console. I searched but found little useful.
Soooo I started talking to gemini which gave me solution after solution which did not work. However it did show me the browser debugger and with much messing around I finally trapped the failing POST and saw it had the wrong cluster node inside. As soon as I said that gemini gave me the required commands to reset the network map.
wonder if it's co-incidence. My ISP changed my IP again this morning at 1am and I missed the auto alerter I run because it was swamped in my backup messages (not a good excuse). So I wasted an hour until I remembered "it's always DNS". Yes it was. OK, changed IP with my registrar. The difference today was the amount of time it took to propogate. Normally pretty instant, but today an hour before everything was reachable again.
Great news for other saddos playing flight simulators :-)
BeyondATC has launched an X-Plane plugin which brings the ATC and realtime(ish) live traffic into the sim mirroring what they already delivered in MSFS.
Here you see me departing Kastrup EKCH in a 777-200-ER. I configured it to show labels so you can see the actual flight number of the injected traffic. Once you've simmed with ATC it feels very sterile without.
@GreatDismal fyi
I feel reasonably confident this isn't you..
I'm not saying get rid of verification/encryption - I'm saying make it a requirement if you want encrypted chat only. If you know enough to want that, you can probably deal with the keys shit.
This vexes me so damn much.
#matrix I really, really like the ESS flavour especially now I can run multiple instances side by side, but my God - the insistence on device verification and encryption will kill it in the mass market.
I have set up a public, unencrypted video room and just want to send a link to someone so we can chat.
For this to happen I need to create an account for them and then try to explain the login and verification process using a recovery key. For non-techies this is utter kryptonite. FFS matrix!
Kept seeing posts about Zulip after the Discord "news" so had a look.
Took me about 2 hours to get it working, mostly because of the Caddy directives needed to stop it breaking CSS and redirecting.
Not impressed tbh. I find it un-intuitive as a user and the hoops required ro run admin commands on the CLI seem ridiculous.
This is my 3rd after Mattermost and Matrix. I find MM "best" but dropped that when they started moving stuff into paywall.
I guess it has to be Matrix for now 😠
is this even on?
What's up with ladybirds ATM? On my kitchen door I count at least 10 at any given time.
Is this a remake of The Birds but less scary?
@andybalaam that's how I'd expect and want it to work.
I do wonder if this is where blockchain could actually have a genuine purpose as an immutable record of a thread.
Way above my pay-grade but if Matrix wants truly wide adoption this (along with unable to be de-crypted messages *needs* to be fixed.

@andybalaam Interesting article on messgage ordering and I suspect you've just explained what I see when I've logged one of the two (or more) clients I have logged in to the same HS out, then re-login and never get messages my other client can see. This is not intuitive to a "normal" user (me).
The only logical thing for *me* is to have messages displayed to me by the client in the order they were *sent* by users. It means what I have in the client can change as messages get hoovered up but /2
