It's funny that moving from my own hacky scripts (to compile SCSS→CSS and bundle JS) to Vite has cut the build time basically in half.
It's almost like Vite folks actually know what they're doing!

Pondering if I should get back into Emacs again. I looked into Doom Emacs, but TBH I don't think I want to get into Someone Else's Big Config TBH.

(I had the same problem with stuff like LazyVim and AstroNvim, so not an exclusive Emacs problem...)

Hello Fediverse. I'm looking for a job.

I'm a web developer of 12 years of experience (mostly backend, but I can do some frontend in a pinch). Microservices, new APIs, refactorings - I did it all.
I primarily worked with #Ruby and Rails, but I have experience with #Python and #Elixir.

Currently residing in Israel, but I'm happy to work remotely on contract, or maybe even relocate.

If you're interested, my LinkedIn is https://www.linkedin.com/in/artemiysolopov/

So...
What's folks' opinion on #Scala nowadays? Is it worth digging into?

Wait.
So the whole "OMG #Claude found a vuln in Linux kernel!" thing is just one dude blabbing on a conference with a bunch of AI-generated diagrams? Is that it?

#ai

TIL that, if you select the text and paste an URL, #Obsidian automatically converts it into a link.
I feel mildly silly for doing it with a plugin now.

#ObsidianMD

A moment of blasphemy, if you will.
How useful is #Kubernetes on VPS systems?
From what I remember from my course, it seems to be the most useful when you have a bunch of heterogenous machines, because you can have complex rules like "Prefer these nodes for this kind of service".
But if you're basically running VPSs, with each service running in its own machine (which often seems to be the case at scale), then what does K8s do for you? Discovery? Surely you don't need k8s for just discovery.

So, after fiddling around a bit, I came to a conclusion that trying to run BEAM applications (Erlang/Elixir/etc) in Docker while communicating with them from the host is exhausting.

Mainly because, ironically, BEAM was designed from the ground up to be multi-host, but it requires a discovery service (epmd) to be present on a specific port (4369). So if you want BEAM on your host (with its own epmd), you can't port-forward epmd from your container to its port as well.

You know what I’m thinking?
What the heck happened to DeepSeek?
Remember DeepSeek? A model that was supposed to kill ChatGPT?

How many <bleep>ing #Java runtimes are there?!

"AI is just a tool!"
Yeah, it's like a shitty drill that can randomly go 5mm off center and the hole diameter can be 10% higher or lower than what you specified.

"A crisis is the time of opportunity."
Yes, if you can run to the government and ask to be bailed out (the way billionaires and corporations usually do). For us normal folk, it's the time of misery.

Heck, not even that.
Imagine if all the money being put into AI went to... other businesses. I shudder to think how many good ideas never got off the ground because, apparently, you can't get any money nowadays if you don't push AI.

Honestly.

Is IKEA furniture even that bad?

Or are people just being snooty about it because it’s mass-produced and has exposed screw holes instead of the Holy Glue?

Okay I wonder.
Is there a web component which is like a `<select>` but allows me to have divs/spans as options?

#javascript #webcomponents #CustomElements

Ugh.
Having no luck with flashcard apps on Linux.
All of them buggy in one way or another...

Huh.
TIL that Requests only supports HTTP/1.1.
I wonder if it's... important.

#Python

I try to poke #awk every once in a while but honestly, more often than not I resort to `ruby -ne`

#Ruby

I wonder if people on Mastodon (using #iOS in particular) just don't care about notifications.
The prime reason of using an app, for me, is to get notifications for when someone interacts with my post.
I tried #IceCubes and #Mona yesterday, and both have problems with notifications. @tootapp works perfectly for it (even if the default sound is a bit... jumpscare-y).

I think a funny thing is, I'm so used to #RubyOnRails having #SQL logs on by default, I only recently found out that PostgreSQL and MySQL can give you query logs by themselves.
