@darius I just heard your name cited on Desert Bus for Hope -- someone was paraphrasing the thesis of "How I won the Lottery"

I've been wanting to make this four panel format for a while but this was the perfect time to do so. Here's a blank version, please use and share.

Shout out to GreenGeeks for having the PHP patches in place by 10-ish PM server local time on 10/21. An announcement would have been nice, but quick turnaround is always more important.

Heads up: it looks like there's no #recall or news reports on this yet, but a friend of mine contracted E.coli late last week from iceberg #lettuce from Ocean Mist Farms. Check where your lettuce is coming from.

I had a bunch of bruised apples after going apple picking last week and then dropping half of them on the floor as soon as I got home. So I decided to try making baked apples out of six different uncommon varieties of apple to see which one was best.

You can see the stream VOD here https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2904730029 but the quick answer is Scarlet Crush.

The monster Charles Schulz created the torment chamber known as Peanuts to torture the entity Charlie Brown for five decades. Brown spent his existence an eternal child, unable to kick a football, win a baseball game, or earn the respect of his peers. In death, Schulz could no longer pile new torments upon Brown, but until newspapers die for good, Brown is forced to relive his tortured history over and over.

I heard somewhere and I don't remember where that new smart TVs come with an odious amount of motion blur enabled by default. Last night, after watching one episode of GBBO with my mom, I insisted on finding the setting to turn it off because it looked like a fucking soap opera.

Setting up a smart TV is one of the circles of Hell as described in the inferno, right?

there's not really a lesson here other than try and get a bead on what the hegemony is teaching you, so you can understand its motivations. I'm just bored after a week of covid and feel like writing simultaneously smart and stupid shit.

Saying that out loud seems to be a way to get you branded as a heretic to the civic religion. At very least, you will be made to stand trial on behalf of the victim, to justify their lives and patiently explain why the systemic murder was unjust. That victim was no angel, they'll say. They signed up for this life, they were some vague term like "terrorist" or "Antifa" which just seems like "guy I made up in my head at the Pentagon or the Manhattan Institute or some office in Great Barrington"

This is not meant to apply to those who were directly impacted by a tragic event. If you're 1-2 degrees from someone lost in a tragedy, you have every business being more concerned about that than anything else.

Way more Americans have been affected by our ongoing tragedies of violence (e.g. our quarter century and counting of stupid and unwinnable wars; police brutality and murder; overseas bombing impacting relatives of immigrants) and they deserve their moments of remembrance too.

While the article above focuses more on victims of natural disasters than those of murder, the principle in either case is that we are asked by our society to compartmentalize things which are of the same gravity into strata which are contextual to who, where, when, and why.

I strongly suspect that this stratification does not and can not yield an individual benefit (material or psychological) to any of us. But it does serve empire greatly, since it enables the worst murderous crybullyism.

> People think that reading the news is a good way to stay “informed.” But it isn’t at all, because it is biased toward paying excessive attention to things that happen the least often. The entire concept of “newsworthiness” is in tension with giving people an accurate impression of the world,

Probably the most horrific thing Western hegemony teaches you, in the sense that you are horrified to learn what you've been doing when you look at it objectively, is what Current Affairs in 2017 called "The Media's Hierarchy of Victims."

A fun thing to do that will probably eventually get you killed is to encounter someone who is loudly reminding you about the 9/11 victims and respond to them with whatever they previously said about George Floyd, Philando Castile, Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin, Breonna Taylor...

The Schemers are all right.

I have been using "smart" phones for something like 18 years. Today for the first time I successfully rooted a phone and made it mostly usable.

It was weeks of research and waiting periods, learning deep parts of Android spec phones that I've never seen before, and installing a lot of software that's often abandoned by devs and picked up by others.

Anyway, shout out to Motorola to putting only minimal barriers up, and blessings to anyone who's ever made the effort to make this easier for us.

This article not only perfectly captures two things I've been trying to articulate for years (viz. the React ecosystem reflects nerdview for Javascript maximalists, and tools are not neutral) but also shows that the two ideas are causally related.

No idea why we're modern-ricing this one, but...

20 years ago, normal people avoided technology and techies would jump on the newest gadgets as soon as they could.

Now, normal people buy smart toasters & coffee mugs while every techie I know is on the verge of retreating to the forest
