EU governments have agreed their position on the #DigitalOmnibus on Data, and AI is at the heart of it.
Under the Irish Presidency, the Council has joined a deregulation project built around a dangerous idea: that Europe’s AI ambitions require feeding an ever-growing appetite for data, even if that means weakening rights people already have.

@zzt Funny you should ask that question: a couple of decades ago I worked out that a mono 300dpi laser printer can print about 1.2Mb of data as a bitmap on a sheet of A4. Call it 0.8Mb with error correction … but then quadruple that if you go to 600dpi. So an HD 3.5" floppy disk per sheet of paper, or about 1Gb of data per ream of paper. Not human-eyeball-readable though. And you'd need to verify each printed page via a scanner immediately lest toner streaking or cartridge fade bork your backup.

I’ll never forgive you all for making non-tech people know about tech against their will lol

stealing and reposting good memes will continue until alt texting improves 🤷‍♂️

That guy in the golden car with PHP as his plate is probably happy now.

If the original is as hard to exploit as some of the experts have been saying, it's entirely possible that the fix for yesterday's PHP bug might cause more active exploits than the original bug, because the fix is on the order of, what, 12k lines of code? A patch of that size, touching so many parts of the codebase is quite likely to introduce a ton of bugs on its own

⚠️ Important Notice

This is the only authorized activity for the rest of the week:

I just had a scary trip to the local Tesco Express. People glowered at me, muttering "Happy now, PHP developer?". One woman shielded her kids, shrieking "Don't go near the nasty server-side man, kids". And when I got home, someone had posted a ColdFusion manual through my letter box with a message in cut-out newspaper text saying "learn to code, loser".

"So you don't know why the British Prime Minister #AndyBurnham just allowed the fossil fuel freaks at Shell to potentially murder your nan using another one of their deadly heatwaves, but you don't want to look like a thicky thick dumb dumb in front of all your mates."

With all the "fun" yesterday, it turns out that BIND also had a security whoopsie. So nostalgic, it's like the band got back together and is doing all of their old numbers.

A really good mitigation for this btw - AppArmor or SELinux.

Google something like apparmor restrict php from executing commands. Works against these CVEs.

Sucks for cybersecurity vendors who shipped their appliances using PHP without SELinux or AppArmor, of course.
