Moin und Morsche zusammen. Ein Bild meines abendlichen Spaziergangs zum Morgengruß

Yesterday I responded to Indigenous Peoples Day by sharing some of my family's history.
I have one more story for you.
My mother was born Wailaki and lived on the Round Valley Reservation.
At least seven families lived on the ranch. Three generations of grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
My mother always said that while the country was starving during the depression they had ample game to hunt, fish in the Eel River and a massive garden. But when she was sent to Indian Boarding School she starved.
I tell you this because her later health issues were likely the result of malnutrition as an adolescent.
I was her end of life caregiver.
The doctors were convinced that the atrophy of her brain was from alcohol. She was Indian but never a drinker. They wouldn't believe us and didn't help.
Prejudice can manifest in so many different ways.
She deserved better.
This is why I seek out care for myself at my Indian Health clinic. They believe me when I tell them the truth

Do you think you are neurodivergent?

This is not a question about diagnosis. If you think you are, the answer is yes.

As always, please boost.

Big news in my little world: next month I’ll become the owner of the bookshop where I work. It’ll be amazing; for now, though, I’m digging into the nuts and bolts of starting a business, because other than the inventory and bookshelves, I’ll basically be starting from scratch.

The biggest decision to make now is what POS system to use, because we’ll do final inventory under the current ownership November 2 to 4 and I’d like to list the inventory in the new system as part of that process. Bookmanager’s waiting list is closed for a year, whereas I’ll be looking for a system to be up and running by the end of this month. Any advice on that? We’re on Shopify now, but I think it might be more than I’m looking for, going forward. The shop is teeny-tiny, and I’m into simplicity (including zero AI) but would like to accept all modes of payment. I’ve heard suggestions for Square, with which my experiences have been mixed in the past, and Basil Lite, which I’d never heard of. . . .

"AI will solve the simple problems so humans can focus on the hard ones" is such a ridiculous fail at understanding anything about how humans acquire skills and knowledge.

Humans HAVE TO solve simple problems and then advanced problems in order to learn how to solve the really hard ones. This is not optional.

Good luck solving any difficult problems in the future with a generation of people who spent their entire education typing every problem into a chatbot's prompt box.

China has restrooms with digital timers showing exactly how long people spend inside each toilet stall.

Did you know there is an UK Office for Responsible Business Conduct?

Nope neither did I... which might be why even though complaints to the ORBC have risen seven-fold in the last five years, that still only makes a total of 36 complaints in the eight months 'til August this year.

I wonder what the result would be if the office's profile was as high as Which?

But then again the Govt. wouldn't be able to celebrate the low level of complaints, now would it?

Finnland: KI-Boom auf Kosten der Natur?

Google will Milliarden in Finnlands digitale Infrastruktur investieren. Von A. Bartram.
