If you have never experienced an Open Space the @OSCo might create some questions. How can a conference without a schedule work?

If you are unsure what to expect Mireia Cano talked about her experience here https://lnkd.in/p/en4B9cEn

We also have keynotes by Stephanie Carstensen and Jahmel Harris, see https://opensecurityconference.org/conference/keynotes

And best, through cancelations we have some tickets available!!
Let us know if you are interested

It's already next week

I am extremely late to the airpods game (too many other people need things, so it took until I was gifted them haha). But chores are so much better with Copeland James' "Small Talk" and Fenne Lily's "Win Win" in my ears. :)

"Less is More with Minimalist Architecture, Ruth Malan and Dana Bredemeyer," by @eduardodasilva

Written in 2021 about a short paper written in 2002:

So who's playing Fenne Lily's Win Win while doing weekend chores?

Sam Altman wants to bust up small, privately held PCs and collectivize those resources within large data centers, so their utilization can be efficiently coordinated by a central planner (himself).

Sam, buddy! We tried this 100 years ago in Russia, and it didn't work then either.

“My mom told me, it's better to trust people than to doubt them. She said that people aren't born with kind hearts. When we're born, all we have are desires for food and material things. Selfish instincts, I guess. But she said that kindness is something that grows inside of each person's body, but it's up to us to nurture that kindness in our hearts. That's why kindness is different for every person.”

“Arne and Matthias [co-founders and CEO, Tuta] encourage us to speak up about mistakes openly and honestly so that we can learn from these and grow as a team. Arne and Matthias are also deeply rooted in Hannover, strictly adhere to German laws, including working times, and they wouldn't even think about moving the company elsewhere just for different working laws or things like that.”

@RuthMalan That immediately made me think of another famous quote:

“The programmer, like the poet, works only slightly removed from pure thought-stuff. He builds his castles in the air, from air, creating by exertion of the imagination. Few media of creation are so flexible, so easy to polish and rework, so readily capable of realizing grand conceptual structures.”
― Frederick P. Brooks

I know there's the argument that automated (agentic) coding pushes experiments into the world faster... But we're just ditching hard won lessons about design, including the interrelated "theory of the problem" and "theory of the solution" that are being actively wrought and evolved **and tested** (variously meant) as we design? (Rhetorical. Job threat in a shrinking job market...)

"Programming is an act of design. To write a program is to legislate the laws for a world one first has to create in imagination. Only rarely does any designer, be he an architect, a novelist, or whatever, have so coherent a picture of the world emergent in his imagination that he can compose its laws without criticism from that world itself." -- Joseph Weizenbaum (1976) 👇

The one thing I've taken from the reaction of deaths of Dolly Parton and Patrick Stewart is how much love there is towards people who represent goodness, and how much meaning they bring to people's lives, shaping the idea of the world they want to live in, giving them ideals to strive for.

Join us on Monday to celebrate Merrelyn Emery’s life and work, and for a discussion of her survey/integration paper covering Fred Emery’s contributions.

And @trondhjort is a lovely guide, who has been reading work and research in this Open Systems Theory space, and applying it to our software field.

I'm devastated to hear that #Proton 's CEO and CTO are treating their engineers in a terrible way, blindly trusting LLMs and creating a toxic culture where speed and growth trump security.

I'm not ready to make a radical switch yet but some little actions I implemented today could be useful for others, too:
1) I made my custom domain the DEFAULT email address in ProtonMail
2) I created aliases w my custom domain for shopping, newsletters, admin, etc.

Hoping this will make a transition smoother

I feel like I worked so hard today, mostly because there were several bureaucratic “housekeeping” (quarterly filings, etc.) things that had to be done. (The kind of work that feels like work.)

But phew, my day had nothing on the cat’s! She found another one of her “children” (cat toys) so she was looking after THREE today. Bringing them to food. Bringing them to the office. etc. Hard work!

“If you don't know how something (in this case, web security) works, then having an LLM at your disposal does not mean that you now understand how that thing works.”

Seeing some headlines lately that just remind me of Goodhart's Law.

A sketchplanation that is ~10ish years old now, I think:
