Some of the posts in this thread are getting some likes and that. I don't have a Soundcloud, and while I do have a Patreon, perhaps some of you could go and kick some support to @transactualuk:
So a quick poll. Our upstairs electric shower has died (it is one of two in the house). We need to refurbish the bathroom (it’s just failing on many points no vanity project eco-disaster here). We currently have a bath tub but very very rarely use it. However with the solar panels we do have plenty hot water. What would you do?
Comment welcomed.

I know it won't be confirmed for days, possibly even weeks, but I still can't stop thinking about the count in Mississippi.
One of my favourite photos I've ever taken was in Mississippi.

American friends, thank you. You've done good.
I hope that the people you've elected, at all levels, now do what you need them to. Still a lot of fighting to come. But you've created space for hope, and that's a very fine thing indeed.
@blogdiva There is video of Sister Rosetta Tharpe playing a gig at a disused train station in Whalley Range, Manchester, to a crowd of mostly teenagers.
All of them white, all of them loving it, and more than a few of them who would go on to become massive names in the rock biz.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGPx4ancGhg&list=RDjGPx4ancGhg
It is one of 2 gigs in the UK where relatively few people were in attendance, but the number of people, both major players in the industry and just members of the general public, who claim to have been there would mean the gig would have had to be at somewhere like Wembley Arena, not a small venue - the other, obviously, being The Sex Pistols infamous gig at the Lesser Free Trade Hall in Manchester in June 1976.
I've always found it bizarre just how many Rock/Punk/Metal fans don't know the roots of their favourite music, insisting it is a purely white art form, that black musicians have soul and hi-hop while white guys have "heavier" forms of music.
A few years ago, I played Ernie Isley's searing axe solo from The Isley Brothers song "That Lady" for a metal-head I worked with, just to see his reaction - he flat out refused to believe it was from a 1974 song by a black soul/funk band, he thought it was something more modern by a white metal band with jazz influences.
Black musicians have historically been trail-blazers, often going uncredited and unpaid for their efforts - Gregory C Coleman springs to mind, his legendary 7 second drum break in "Amen Brother" by The Winstons (1969) is the most (over-) used sample in history, even beating Michael Jackson and James Brown combined, and is the basis for at least 3 different sub-genres of music, yet the man who played it died homeless and penniless, never knowing the effect he had on modern music.
Search "amen break", and be amazed at the way a black man you have almost certainly never heard of influenced modern music.

Dear American friends,
Please vote. The rest of the world really needs you to. 2024 was an unmitigated disaster for all of humanity, and although of course it can't be fixed this week, you can make progress towards being able to fix it in the future.
If you can't vote for your own interests, please consider those of the billions who don't get a say but feel the consequences nevertheless.
And if you've already voted, thank you.
And if you're prevented from voting, then I hope your friends and neighbours come out for you.
Thank you.
edited: i think i've found someone, thank you, but i'll leave this here just in case.
maybe a long shot, but:
are there any experienced sewists here who have worked with thickish, elastic fabric and would be willing to take on a small, custom project?
i have, among other things, diagnosed ehlers-danlos with marfanoid features. my thumb subluxes in two joints and on multiple planes multiple times per day, and my wrist is dodgy too. i need something that can gently hold my thumb in place and provide mild compression, but nothing fits me. my wrists are *very* small, but my hands and fingers are very long: anything that fits my hand is enormous on my wrist, and anything that fits my wrist has no hope of fitting my hand.
i’m wondering if anyone would be willing to make me something simple. i have a commercial model of what i’m after, so i could send you that along with photos and measurements. there’s a simple support in it (glued down by a piece of fabric!) that i’d like in the new one, but it’s basically just a simple wrap-around-the-wrist thing with a vaguely rigid thumb sleeve.
if this sounds like something you might be able/willing to do, please let me know. i’m in europe, so the EU would be ideal, but anywhere is theoretically possible.
thank you very much! :BlobCat_Flower:

It's All Souls' Day! A happy All Souls' Day to you all. What is All Souls' Day? Why, it's a day to listen to soul music obviously. Please enjoy and perhaps even consider purchasing these five outstanding soul albums released this year, because they're very good and I recommend them.

Unfollowed a few folk here today. People whose posts I appreciate and views I respect. It’s purely a mental health preservation matter. I need a little less doom.

To this day, when discussing the Luddites, there are two competing narratives.
The first is the anti-Luddite narrative. It essentially states they were were ignorant anti-progress craftsmen who smashed up machines and inevitably lost. This is essentially the “official” narrative.
The other is the pro-Luddite narrative. It states that skilled workers correctly recognised that industrial capitalism was destroying their livelihoods, resisted exploitation, and were brutally suppressed by the state.
Both sides actually contain elements of historical truth. It wasn’t as simple as them being good or bad. A lot of context is left out.
What’s left out of both discussions I think is the unique socioeconomic conditions that made the movement possible to begin with, and honestly a story of how violent revolt doesn’t always work out in favour of the people.

This one is very gloomy and unsettling compared to his previous work. But it's still just as great.
