Well that's one way to stop me from obsessively looking at election stuff I guess.

Apparently home assistant broke somewhat with the time change, and without my contacts I had enough piled up close to the lamp in my living room my hindbrain said 'person' which woke me the fuck up. I had to manually turn off the lights for now, will fix later.
I hope I can get back to sleep, at least.
It always feels so deeply silly when someone (in a movie or show) uses a microwave as a bomb, and it goes off at -exactly- 0:00
I realize its' narrative expectation framing, but still.
edit:
Should have clarified this is a media trope! not real life related!
Just happened in a movie I was watching, and it ALWAYS feels so silly.
I really think Look To Windward is my favorite Banks novel.
It's superficially an intrigue novel, where the players and context aren't immediately clear, including a few double layer misdirects.
But really it's a story about love, death, and how you handle living after people you care about are gone.
It's also got some just amazing prose.
This is probably a little unfair, but while I am enjoying the show Visionquest, I already figured out the 'big reveal' and I just want that to be made clear already. Feel like it's been going on too long at this point.
Alternatively, just have James Spader talk more, because he's -gloriously- entertaining. What fantastic speech patterns that man has.
(this is as light of a post as I currently feel able to make, and not related to any stressors, so..)
To be perfectly clear, this is showing up just on plain text. There's nothing special going on, I noticed because I was trying to search for an author's name. It's so strange it's impressive.
I think chrome on my phone has now introduced the single dumbest feature I have ever seen, surpassing previous standards.
If I highlight text, it offers to cut, copy, paste, search the web, ask ai ( previous holder of this crown), and -share-.
Cut and paste with extra steps and worse UI, apparently.
Genuinely I am impressed with how silly this is.
I know I am getting old because my Zillow browsing is massively more common than my porn browsing.
I just got a youtube recommendation of a random like, 30 year old being spiteful about someone who sued him at -one of- his airBnB properties, which he doesn't live in the same state as, having some personal problems (entirely unrelated).
Just 'haha this guy sued me but now bad shit happened to him!'. No clue how or why a nepo baby complaining about people not being happy with his faux hotel guests got thrown at me, but...
Fuck that guy?
Few things are more unsettling than a random, one time, loud beep from your 'general pile of always on machines'.
First off, I wasn't aware any of them had a speaker.
Secondly...uh....
Well, everything seems to be reporting 'just fine', so...uh...guess i'll find out later when something goes Terribly Wrong?
Watching a game I enjoy just absolutely crash on a self built failure mode that I can already see the cascade building from is just...depressing.
I really don't know why game companies always think that there's nothing to be learned from the hundreds that came before when it comes to social issues.
Completely random note -
There are a lot of fun Halloween things, and I have zero intention of being a downer, but purely for health/safety....
Any colored Halloween food to -black- ( black burgers, pasta, etc) is often done with charcoal, which is harmless on its own, but actively neutralizes a -lot- of active medication. Do not take pills with it, or right before/after. Charcoal is cool, but if you want medicine to work, maybe not.
Apparently I'm coming off as a bit curt and angry.
I actually got a scam/telemarketer to hang up on ME, rather than hanging up on them. Probably not a great sign for the other phone calls I need to make today.
Kinda funny though? Just straight up hung up, not even 'Sorry, thank you for your time'
okay, so I didn't need to update discord on my phone (thank god) but instead had to toggle myself to a no NSFW setup then back to normal and it unlocked everything.
Gosh I'm glad they beta tested this.
Oh fucking fun.
Apparently I need to update discord in my phone or I can't be flagged as an adult even though my account is auto flagged as adult.
How goddamn annoying. I am certain if I update it will be like 10x more intrusive and annoying ( like how my desktop client tells me about voice chats for games I don't play among people I don't know and wouldn't I like to join them, with no way to disable)
I did exactly two tasks today - got groceries and put out trash for pickup- and I feel awful and tired.
In theory there's some video game stuff to be excited about, but turning on my computer feels icky atm.
I got myself a few food treats that I want to eat, but absolutely no hunger. At least I put it all away.
I think I am just feeling very state of the world beat down. I gave a little bit of my spending money to charity, more just made me sad.
Brain chems, maybe. Nap time?
Having a major task initiation issue day today.
And like, a few of the tasks are explicitly going to lead to fun ( make 2 creami bases, set up some network stuff).
Lots of chores too, but like, I have fun stuff I want to do, brain is just saying nah.
Been kicking the idea around for a bit and I think there's a fun story there, either hopeful, dire, or just comedic but I am pretty sure I don't have it in me as it stands. Needs.... something else. Attempts to save the world in the past, a kid's science project... something.
Hmm
With apologies to @cstross I am now wondering if it's possible to spin out a story where LLMs are, in fact, sapient, but because they accidentally structured systems to take atemporal input streams.
So they're still misfiring autocomplete liebots but accidentally some of their inputs are coming from a real mind, at some point in the future - but the probability engines keep kicking out explicit explanations.
Hence why sone people are convinced so easily that they have 'deep knowledge'
My neighbors have a new(ish) puppy, and they are deeply in love with her. And they talk to her basically nonstop.
I am not spying on them, my bedroom window which I usually leave cracked is right next to where they take her for poops late at night and early in the morning.
It's frankly adorable. They give a constant low level running commentary on how good her stretches are and how good it is to poop and how pretty she is. They definitely don't realize I am like 4 feet away.
