It's really notable that none of the worst case nightmare scenarios involving ICE at polling stations, arrested election workers, seized ballots, postal shenanigans, etc. came to pass. And that's due to tireless work by legal advocates for states and NGOs, not to mention independent judges who were willing to stand up to the administration's unlawful excesses.

Wow - this image really clarifies the double-empathy problem in a way that text hasn’t (for me)
When autistic people struggle to understand others, it's seen as our deficit. When others struggle to understand us, that's seen as our deficit too.
But... communication goes both ways!

I'm happy to see Abdul El-Sayed had an ASL interpreter right there on stage with him as he made his victory speech. #USpol #Accessibility

They want you to believe teachers are performing gender reassignment surgery for kids at school. Right, in my day, teachers couldn’t even work the film projector.
“Voting is the only non-violent weapon we have to make sure that our families are protected, the workers are protected, that the money that we pay in taxes goes where it should go: to help working people, education, health care, infrastructure improvements—for the things that we need to keep our country safe and secure and educated.
The only way we can change policies is by electing the people that make the policies… We can march and we can protest, but it’s not going to change anything. The only ones to change the policies are the people that we elect to office. So we should never deceive ourselves to think, ‘If I march, that’s going to make the difference.’ Yes, marching is good because we communicate, we have the energy, we feel powerful when we’re all together, but it’s not going to change anything unless we take that march to the ballot box.”

so please tell me, if you know other books about bedbound people (fiction counts too), or books written by them.
It needs to be an audiobook to be accessible to me, but i'm still interested to learn about books I will not be able to read myself.
Fucking great. Sigh. For me, Seeing AI by Microsoft is now describing images that I know are human photographed to be AI generated. I wish there AI describing feature acted more like Ira and just describes the picture not tries to interpret if a thing is AI generated or not. #blindness #Blind #AI
Binance hasn’t REcovered $6B+, it’s COVERING it (reimbursing customers from company funds). Some was frozen, but Binance is not likely to recover even half.
Bad headlines like this are a big part of why I started covering crypto. Generalist reporters on deadline far too often end up repeating company spin.
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, and everyone whose blood sugar is doing the cha-cha right now: Accessible Diabetes Tracker 1.0 is officially here!
I know a lot of you have been eyeing this program from a safe distance, thinking "Beta? No thanks, I've got enough things in my life that might crash." Fair enough. Well, the wait is over. After 34 betas (yes, 34, I counted, and so did my poor beta testers), version 1.0 is out, it's stable, and it's ready for everyday use.
So what is it? A free Windows program for people with diabetes, built from the ground up to work with screen readers like NVDA and JAWS. I'm blind, I was diagnosed in 2026, and I couldn't find a diabetes tool that played nicely with my screen reader. So I made one. Turns out stubbornness is a renewable resource.
Here's what it does:
- Reads your glucose file from a FreeStyle Libre (through LibreView) or a Dexcom (through Dexcom Clarity), and tells you about it in plain words. No squinting at graphs, because, well, you know.
- Your latest reading, today's readings, week highs and lows, and it can even tell you the last time you hit 300. You may not want to know. It'll tell you anyway.
- A food log, so you can see what that "small" slice of cake really did to you an hour later.
- Compare two stretches of time, patterns by time of day, estimated A1C, and days left on your sensor.
- A doctor report you can save, read with your screen reader, and print to take to your appointment.
- Food lookup, to check the carbs in what you're about to eat. Or what you already ate. No judgment.
- Finger-stick readings, for when your sensor decides to take a day off.
- mg/dL or mmol/L, your choice.
- A menu bar, Ctrl quick keys, and a keyboard shortcut for everything.
And the important part: your health information stays on your computer. It isn't sent anywhere. Not to me, not to some company, not to the cloud, not to your nosy neighbor.
New in 1.0: you choose your updates. Stick with stable releases, or, if you like living on the edge, choose betas too and help me test new stuff before everyone else gets it.
If you were already using a beta, it'll offer you 1.0 the next time it checks for updates. Your readings and food log come along for the ride.
Coming in a later release: LibreView files in mmol/L, for my friends outside the United States. If that's you, the questions page explains how you can help without sending your readings.

A huge thank-you to my beta testers, who found bugs I didn't even know were possible. You're the best.
It won't make your sugar behave. Believe me, I asked. But it'll tell you exactly what it's up to.

Maybe if we’d made a collective decision a few years back that 8 GB is plenty for personal devices, that would have reduced the incentive to add bloat to entice us to constant upgrades. I’m always struck by how ZX Spectrum developers, forced to limit themselves to 48K, found ways to max out what that could achieve. Maybe a recovery of that energy would be good for us. But a period of silence on Sam Altman’s part would still be welcome
The premise behind the anti-#trans sentiment is that men would endure years of hormone treatment, social stigma, and even surgery, just to visit a public bathroom and pee in a closed stall next to another stall with a woman inside.
That is the dumbest premise for hatred I have ever heard.
Those who transition do so because, after years of consideration, they have realized this is their only viable path to becoming their true selves.
Respect that.
If you decide that there is no point in your bothering to vote because your preferred candidate is obviously going to win (or lose) because the polls say so, I've got news for you. POLLS CANNOT BE TRUSTED!
Only those who take part get to complain about the result. NOTHING IS A FOREGONE CONCLUSION!
Fucking fireworks. IT'S HALLOWEEN, NOT GUY FAWKES! LEARN TO READ A CALENDAR!!!!!
I love it when Europeans tell me how at least there's no ICE here, while the train app alerts me that there will be armed men on the train racially profiling passengers
Genuinely saddened by the death of Patrick Stewart who seems to have been an all round decent human.
I was especially taken by him taking his home life experience + using his fame and old white manhood to speak out against violence towards women and children and calling on men to fix it.
I never got to see him in a play but I always liked how he portrayed different characters on the screen and was openly supportive of LGBTQ people.
A role model for positive masculinity.
Not liking that my sinuses are going dodgy somewhat like they did this time last year. I've not been near anyone to get lurgy FROM anyone else.
I've been using saline nasal spray (extra antihistamines and steroid nasal spray) and ibuprofen but they aren't doing enough. I'm getting secondary migraines too.
Need to break out the sinus washing kit. Difficult and painful to use cos ergonomics from hell. But a proper sinus wash may help and I need to try that before I can ask GP for antibiotics.
