@NanoRaptor bisexual achy breaky keyboard :-)

For vibes.

For Australians, smaller than a one.

Or for US folk, smaller than a lincoln.

5 inch Colour CRT smaller than a fiver.

This is your occasional backup reminder - if you haven’t yet, go start setting up backups of any kind.

If you think you don’t need backups, delete everything you have on the device you’re using right now.

If that seems like a bad idea then you need backups.

Ratsby among the classics.

There is only one true krautrock - if you are a purist.

You find Karl, aged 68, somewhere in a loft in Spandau. Karl smokes endlessly and knocks out four on the floor, unwavering - snare on two and four and high hat eighths.

The release of the single “Baby Got Back” by Sir Mix-a-Lot is closer to the launch of Sputnik I, than it is to today.

But still… he plays. He would like to stop but he cannot. He is driven. He continues.

All other krautrock is illusion.

Karl is not immortal, as immortality implies the passage of time.

Karl simply is the passage of time.

There is a photo of Karl in a Neu! promo shot in 1974, another with Kraftwerk in 1979. Karl looked 68 then also, but his cigarette was just a little longer. He looked tired.

Karl still looks tired.

Karl will not improvise or fill, Karl will not acknowledge a bridge, Karl simply plays and has played since 1972.

You arrive with your synths and you explore seventeen minutes of modal jazz, weimar cabaret inspired hypno trance, perhaps ambient effects.

It matters not. Karl plays, you record and pass through. Karl watches you leave.

Still Karl plays.

The iTunes Store opened closer to the 1970s than to today.

The PowerPC Macintosh line has now been released closer to the birth of @Cdespinosa than to today.

@NanoRaptor

A glass paperweight, a wax-soaked cardboard fruit box, and sun at 10am on an autumn morning - I noticed smoke and took pics (this was ~14 years ago, but re-found the pic today)

It caught alight right after I took the photo. easy to put out with fingers, but damn... if I hadn't been there....

Sometimes, there are just intrusive thoughts y'know?

Highly motivated to find folks with Whistle InterJets -- late-90s 486 SOHO Internet appliances (IBM bought and sunsetted it, and sold off the whistle.com domain). People with long ISP memories may remember it because it was resold by ISPs in US /Europe / Asia (especially Japan).

I'm building a comprehensive info resource (and tailoring modern NetBSD to run on it). We need to find folks with hardware, software we're missing, ephemera, or memories. The software (on 30yo IDE drives) is especially endangered.

Rough site, in all its 1995-grade (but secretly HTML5) "glory":

https://www.alaska.net/~royce/interjet/

(That tilde account is also endangered -- I've also registered a domain and will be moving to it when ready)

Please boost, especially if you have overlap in the retrocomputing or vintage ISP space!
