A good comment to Altman's interview on YouTube where he says he wants all the RAM of the world for himself: "It's Terrible for Sam Altman to have all those Organs in his body when better people could utilize them more efficiently"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMsUcCYNKqY

Sam Altman said it's "quite terrible to have everybody have a bunch of the world's limited supply" of DRAM sitting in personal computers.

You know what Sam? I think that it's quite terrible to have all the billionaires have a bunch of the world's money sitting around in their personal bank accounts unused when there are people living on the streets and children going hungry.

And also, as always: Go fuck yourself Sam Altman.

A number of people have pointed this out in my timeline over the last months but I wanted to reiterate:

the defence - 'they were just a few bad apples', misses the actual point of the aphorism:

a few bad apples in a barrel, actually corrupts the entire barrel, unless removed (very)( quickly.

users of the phrase may defend that use by saying they acted quickly to avoid the corruption; but as they never really do, the original use - the corrupting effect *of* the bad apples, stands!

Saturday's arrests outside the US Embassy in London bring the total number of arrests under the Terrorism Act in the UK for defying the ban on PA to over 4,000.

Okay, so what if you did tax rich people?

They’ll still be rich & all you’ll have to show for it is more robust infrastructure, healthier people, better communities & schools, just a complete waste.

It’s far better to just leave rich people to enjoy their gains in constant partying if the best idea you can come up w/ is spending their hard stolen money on frivolous whims like sanitation systems.

Passengers on Spain's high speed trains speak about their fears after two deadly crashes

The train crashes in Spain this year have been horrendous.

But I can't help but think that if the media treated car crashes the way they treat train crashes, no one would think "I'm afraid to get on a train, I'm going to take the car until things are safe".

The difference is that all over the world we've been socialized to think of car "accidents" as normal. Not a big deal. Additionally, you don't usually have lots of deaths from car crashes at the same place & time unless it's due to heavy fog. So it's easier for the media and folks to treat them as "normal" and not alarming. But the death count from cars crashes per year is far higher than from train crashes.

The second crash on the same line in one year is a BIG problem and I hope whatever the investigation shows, that the governments involved will take it very seriously and fix it - forget partisan politics. People's lives are at stake.

But it's also good to remember that people's lives are at stake from dangerous car-centrism and car-caused climate change and we have to take that seriously too. In fact, we'll be going further down that road if media makes people so afraid of public transit and trains that they choose personal cars instead.

Why don't we meet in the middle and call it superficial intelligence

More "boring" service providers who are content with a modest profit margin and slow organic growth, please. I don't even care if the UI looks "dated" and new features take a long time to be built. Traditional boring bare metal, only add new customers when you have capacity to support it, whatever.

A company of 50+ year old tech veterans who have been laid off and left behind from age discrimination just looking to keep the bills paid until retirement.

Run it like a co-op, like a little credit union that isn't looking to expand quickly, just serve their little niche of the community.
