Positive messaging on election day in southern New Mexico!

From Grace's Facebook post: "Today was such a special and meaningful moment for me.

I had the honor and privilege of accompanying Mildred, who is 100 years young, to cast her very important vote! 🗳️

At 100 years old, Mildred reminds us that every voice matters, every vote counts, and age is just a number when it comes to making your voice heard.
Being by her side today is a memory I will cherish forever. Thank you, Mildred, for allowing me to share this beautiful moment with you! 🩷 "

(Technical note on the video: I stitched together the video clips in a hurry so that we can get the message out before polls close. There is a loud generator hum in the audio tracks, so I used a notch filter to reduce it.)

Perhaps the new US Congress will think about enacting a lustration law?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lustration

Near the bottom of this article the use of a lustration law is mentioned: "...means banning from public office members of the Vučić government or party apparatus who are found to have violated the rights of Serbians."

Alamogordo group pushes back on demolition of historic Sunspot solar observatory

From today's newsletter for local supporters: "...we are running out of time. We have received word from someone authorized to be onsite that a wrecking ball is now there. We are urgently seeking a New Mexico attorney willing to take on a federal lawsuit challenging the National Science Foundation’s demolition decision. The goal is to seek a preliminary injunction in federal district court in New Mexico to halt demolition while the court examines whether federal law was followed. We cannot allow this important part of our region’s scientific and cultural heritage to disappear without exhausting our options."

@QasimRashid Brazilian here. A lot of people thought it was already lost after the first round and we were going to be fucked, but everyone went to the streets and to social networks like crazy. We all united, the young and the elderly, the students and the workers. For 3 weeks, we ceased all our internal struggles among the leftists and we acted as a single organism. Together, we did what was believed to be impossible, because it never happened before.

You can do it too!

New Mexico's fifth New World screwworm case confirmed in Otero County, this time in a beef cow. Officials set a 12.4-mile inspection zone and are adding fly traps. State Vet Dr. Samantha Holeck says cooler temps may slow activity but won't end the threat. Details at ScrewwormNM.org. #NewMexico #Livestock

NSF refuses historic listing for Sunspot

The National Science Foundation says it will not apply to add Sunspot Solar Observatory to the National Register of Historic Places even though it filled out the paperwork.

NSF will not let Sunspot be forgotten. It promised $100,000 for an interpretive exhibit. That is about 500 square feet (about 22x22 ft) at quoted average costs of $200/square foot. Meanwhile, it has spent $5 million of a science center at the collapsed Arecibo radio telescope in Puerto Rico and $4.5 million to build a science center inside the decommissioned McMath-Pierce Solar Telescope at Kitt Peak (AZ) National Observatory.

New Mexico peeps, did you get your USPS Informed Delivery email this morning?

Mine usually gets here at 7AM. I have searched all my email folders...none received today. (If it happens two days in a row...I'm gonna say that I smell a rat.)

Here's another way to help as we get closer to election day November 3rd.

Help chase down mail in ballots that have flaws...help contact those voters so that they can take corrective action. (In New Mexico ballot 'curing' is allowed.) The first graphic is an example of this.

Encourage those voters that requested a mail in ballot, but haven't yet submitted. The second graphic shows this.

How can you get this information? In New Mexico you can contact your county clerk and fill out a data request. It's free and updated three times a day during the early voting period.
