Cardiologists have agreed the first truly global definition of a heart attack. The European Society of Cardiology, American College and Heart Association, and World Heart Federation jointly recognised three under-diagnosed heart attack types that disproportionately hit women, including spontaneous coronary artery dissection, which strikes mostly during or after pregnancy. The last two notifications that someone is following me leads, seconds later, to an account that "has been suspended". Why is that happening? Someone follows me, I check out their account--their account has been suspended.

What's up with that?

"If they're following Shirley, suspend them!"

But scores of people followed me without this happening...

Marketing scams aimed at writers via email are rampant. Here’s the latest list of scammers:

Crypto titans have a strategy: feed tens of millions of dollars into Ohio and beat Sherrod Brown. But the dogs aren't buying the dog food this year, perhaps because they've seen the ravages of crypto and tech in their own communities.
Good piece from Eleanor Davis-Diver.

Leaving aside the material and cognitive effects of AI (yes, I know, we cannot put those to one side)…

I increasingly think that *protection racket* is a pretty good metaphor for how AI sits in the world. Its vendors’ rhetoric is

👹 Our tech will **fk u up** but also…
😇 Our tech will protect you from the fker-uppers.

This is an *awful proposition* that is only ever put about by very bad people

Inktober - Fracture

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today.

Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man. Just last month, on Sept. 14, he turned 90, on the same day Brad and I celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary. I will always treasure that he and I shared that date.

Walter was more than Chekov. He was a writer, a teacher, a thoughtful man, and a loyal friend. To the fans who loved him for so many years, thank you. He loved you too.

Rest well, my dear friend. Keep navigating a steady course.
