I've been playing with AccessiIf, the text adventure game interpreter from NathanTech.net. I am unable to save my place in any game I play. I sent a note to the support area of the site a few days ago, and I'm waiting for a response. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and if there is a work-around that I am not aware of.

It's been a hot minute since I've posted any new episodes to The Pauls Place, but here is my review of the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x-STS-USB StreamSet Streaming Headset. I'm pretty happy with it, even at $250 or thereabouts. Enjoy the podcast. https://pnc.st/s/the-pauls-place/d0cd9d93/review-of-the-audio-technica-ath-m50x-sts-usb-streamset-streaming-headset

Several months ago, my first generation Meta glasses stopped working, and I could not get them to do anything no matter what I tried. I told the app to forget the glasses, stuck in their case, and didn’t touch them for ages. A couple days ago I decided to charge the glasses, and this evening I just finished setting them up again. I feel like I have gotten a new Christmas present. I don’t know why they stopped working in the first place, I don’t know how long they will keep working this time, but I’m going to enjoy them while I can. Besides improved battery life, are there any compelling reasons to get the third generation glasses right now?

I need to create an event in Google calendar and I need to invite several people to said event. Is this any easier on Windows than on Mac? I had a limited amount of time to do it from the Mac earlier today and bailed out because it seemed a bit confusing. Just to be clear, I would be using jaws in windows. If the experience is pretty much the same, I will do it from the Mack. If windows really does make it easier, I will go that route.

I have been really slow, finishing the full cast audio edition of Harry Potter and the deathly hallows. There was one thing that the producers chose to do in this book that surprised and honestly disappointed me. I really wish they had not used different voice actors for the adult versions of Harry, Ron, and Hermione. I understand that 19 years had gone by, but I was looking forward to hearing the voices of the actors I had become so familiar with during the bad times enjoying happier times with their families. I feel that they could’ve kept the original voice actors and it would have been believable.

I am using iOS 27 on an iPhone 15 Pro Max with Siri AI. I am in a group text where people are identifying themselves so that other group members can add them to contacts. I invoked Siri, mentioned the name of the person who had just identified themselves, and asked if it could create a contact with the name and phone number. Siri did this for me with no problem. That is pretty cool in my opinion.

I am currently using an iPhone 15 Pro Max. I’m trying to decide whether to upgrade to an iPhone 18 Pro, or Pro Max. I know the battery life is a factor, but I am thinking about Lidar. It is something I’m not sure I have ever really used to be honest. I tend to be someone who uses Be My Eyes for most things.

Every time Apple has a special event, I always have a panic moment because I can never remember where to find it in the Apple TV app on my iPhone. Which tab is it under, and how do I quickly get to it?

I want to listen to the Dolly Parton special this afternoon. What is the best way to listen to mushroom FM on my phone?

I currently use a Windows PC, a Mac, an iPhone, and I should use my iPad, but I don’t. I am becoming increasingly frustrated with the difficulties I find in getting Gmail to sync properly, the difficulties with signing in at times, the fact that it will not play nice with Outlook classic, the list could probably go on. If I was only using Apple products, I could be pretty happy with iCloud. The fact that I am cross platform makes me think that I should consider another option. I currently have a Hotmail account, and an SBC global mail account. I am trying to decide whether to just use one of the existing accounts more frequently, or go ahead and play with fast mail. Interested in thoughts.

Technology rant. I am really happy with my new MacBook Air. I enjoy using my MacBook at work. I actually have found Google Docs to be pretty decent on the Mac even though it may be a bit easier in windows. I am now a part of a leadership team of several guys and one gal who are planning multiple sets for our worship service at church and we are using… Wait for it… Google Docs. Imagine my disappointment twin, yesterday, I pull up Google Docs on my Mac only to discover that it is pretty much broken. Running the latest release of Tahoe. I tried both Safari and Google Chrome. Safari worked a tiny bit better, but not much. When I would use up-and-down arrow keys to move by line, I heard object replacement character over and over and over again. Because I do not currently have windows installed on my Mac, I may need to end up taking the windows PC to work until the Google Docs thing gets sorted. If anyone has any suggestions to make things work better, I am all ears.

Several years ago, I played briefly with a trial of the app You need a budget. I was pretty impressed with it, but it didn’t update my bank info as quickly as I would’ve liked. Also, at the time I didn’t feel like I could justify the price of the app. I don’t recall how much it is now. I’m thinking about giving it another look and curious about what others think. Also, has anyone tried the app every dollar to see if it is accessible with VoiceOver?

Is Cash Reader still the fastest and most accurate way to identify currency on the iPhone, or are there apps that work better? I have said it before, but I miss money reader.

Several years ago, I started a text adventure game called a nasal twitch. I was not even able to get past the first puzzle. I would play that game today if I knew where to find it. More importantly, though, I need a good Frotz interpreter for any platform. iOS, I have used some and it is OK. Windows, I haven’t found anything for quite some time. Mack, I understand there is one, but I do not know where it is or how accessible it is with VoiceOver.

Question for Mac users. If you are in Finder, let’s use the Home folder for an example, and if you press command, J, there are two check boxes in there. One is icon, preview, the other is folder preview. What are those, should they be checked or unchecked for Accessibility reasons?

I have been having enough issues with Gmail lately that I am starting to seriously consider Fast Mail. I am interested to hear from all users of that service, but especially anyone using Windows, iOS and Mac. Can I use iCloud on Mac and iOS but have those messages come over to Windows, or is it an all or nothing scenario?

Hello, all. I am posting to Mastodon from my office at work, but I use my Mac at work so I feel somewhat justified in doing so. LOL. I set up my new MacBook Air yesterday. I transferred settings from my iPhone, but I did not use my old Mac on purpose. I wanted a clean experience. Everything went well with a couple of exceptions. The one thing that did not sync properly was Apple Passwords. My Mac got a few passwords from iCloud, but not everything. Honestly, I have so much in 1Password now that I don't want to switch password managers at this point. Getting 1Password up and running on my Mac was painless, although it does take a bit of time and patience to get things up and running. The other glitch is that Gmail messages and calendar items are not syncing with my Mac yet, although a test message I sent from iCloud to Gmail did come through. When I initially turned the MacBook Air on for the first time, I waited for at least two minutes before I toggled VO on. The first thing I heard was the prompt to press Return to choose English as my preferred language. I don't know if manually turning VO on gave me that prompt, or if I just didn't wait long enough. Samantha came up talking by default and so far I have just left her there. I changed verbosity to medium but I am leaving hints on for a bit as this is the first time I have used Tahoe. The experience I am having with this new Mac is the same as going from an old iPhone to a new one. Much of the VoiceOver unresponsiveness and instability I was beginning to hate on my old Mac seems to be gone, at least for now. There is one thing that is bothering me that I would like to change if possible. I have VoiceOver set to start at log-on. Each time I start the computer, Samantha speaks very slowly and quite loudly. Is there a way to adjust that? The only other thing I have noticed is when I restart the computer, I hear “Installer in progress.” I have no idea what is installing, but the computer starts instantly. Those are my initial impressions. I will be interested in the thoughts of other Mac users. Have a great day, all.

I just purchased a MacBook Air from Sweetwater at the old Price. They still have them in stock. Just thought I would throw that out here for anyone who is thinking about buying one.

Would any of my vibecoding friends be interested in developing an accessible metronome for the iPhone? I have some ideas as to what I want, but I’m not really sure I have the skills to make it happen.

Deer outlook classic. If you really have decided to stop syncing my Gmail messages again, I have no words. I found the process of fixing that rather tedious last time, but I’m not sure I have the energy for it again. I guess all I can say, it’s been nice knowing you. Love, me.
