On Bornholm it is customary to tip your hat and greet this stone ‘godmorgen Hellig Hågen’! The ‘tray’ or ‘altar’ piece at the front seems a later addition (perhaps medieval, but that is not certain) #StandingStoneSunday 📷 Klingon More: http://www.megalithic.co.uk/article.php?sid=15217

A logarithmic chart of distances, showing the planets, the Voyager spacecraft, the Oort Cloud, and our nearest star: Proxima Centauri. If we had a spacecraft that was capable of accelerating continuously and of withstanding the relativistic collisions that would ensue with interplanetary and interstellar material, upon leaving the Solar System, Voyager 1, the Oort Cloud, and Proxima Centauri would be the first three key “distance milestones” we’d encounter.

Red spirits for a stranger's wake.
No man can call his soul his own
Who has the Devil's spoon on loan.
And so behind his web of bales,
Horse halters, barrels, pucan sails
The gombeen like a spider sits,
Surfeited; and for all his wits,
As poor as one who never knew
The treasure of the early dew.
-- Joseph Campbell

THE GOMBEEN MAN
Behind a web of bottles, bales,
Tobacco, sugar, coffin nails
The gombeen like a spider sits,
Surfeited; and, for all his wits,
As meagre as the tally-board
On which his usuries are scored.
The mountain people come and go
For wool to weave or seed to sow,
White flour to bake a wedding cake,
Red spirits for a stranger's wake.

Joseph Campbell

I believe Roy Keane called them Gombeen men. And he wasn't talking about the Glaziers;+)

@FSonder An interesting and entertaining read. I just stumbled over one passage: '... by grafting the American vine onto the European vine'. Maybe I get it wrong because I'm not a native speaker but for this kind of grafting a rootstock of American origin is combined with an European vine on top. So shouldn't it be 'grafting the European vine onto the American vine', as in the abstract found here?

FUCKING #Microsoft

Word had just started emitting a popup asking me to enable "Connected Experiences" when I go to select stuff from a old, locked Word doc. LOL no.

A brief search suggests the only way to shut this shit down is to deinstall & then reinstall Word.

Yeah, right. If I have to go to those lengths, LibreOffice it is, thanks!
