Sex is great and everything, but have you tried having more sex?

To call this song my latest ear worm would be to vastly understate its impact. I’ve been wondering when I would find the song that would perfectly, cathartically, excruciatingly, ecstatically and heart-breakingly capture and reflect my feelings living in this knife-edge, polarizing world. Dala, a pair of musical goddesses from Toronto, my home city, are gorgeous singers, and their latest album is their best writing yet in my opinion. I hope to sing this one day with my jam pals, but it’ll take a lot more listens and practices before I can do it without emoting too much to be able to sing.

I had the coolest experience today. I went with a friend to the relatively new Biidaasige Park in Toronto. It's full of all manner of fun and beautiful things, but one of my favourites was this tactile labyrinth. I knew about these, line patterns drawn on the ground that one can walk through meditatively, but this was the first time I'd encountered a tactile one that I could explore independantly. The edges are raised about 5cm so my cane could track them easily.

A discovery of almost cosmic proportions, to me at least. NASA has a YouTube playlist with 17 audio described videos in it. I know what I’ll be doing on my travel day next week!

🎧 YouTube link to the recording of NASA's first virtual event targeted for the Blind and Low Vision Community. This two hour presentation is about the SLS rocket tests for the rockets that power the Artimis space craft. There’s a never before heard excerpt of conversation between astronauts on the far side of the moon, audio described video of a launch, some hard science, and a great panel discussion about space, astronomy and accessibility.

🎧 “Emily,” an original song in the subway.
This song is my homage to all the women who fought for my right to vote, many of whom worked tirelessly for decades,
and didn’t live long enough to see their goal achieved. Emily Davison was a British Suffragette who was imprisoned and tortured for her commitment to women’s
suffrage, and who died as the result of a political action. Thank you to all the brave women then and now who do the right thing; may we never take their
courage for granted. I sing this in the subway because it's the change I want to see in the world.

Maybe this means our Canadian cities will shift even closer to being like European cities.

Update, chocolate found, call off the search parties, discovered post slightly flattened but pre-disintegrated and smeered. Laundry averted!

I've got a lot of pillows and blankets on my bed, and I just dropped a tiny little chocolate while lying in bed snacking and scrolling. I can't find it. We all know how this ends. It's somewhere, somewhere close, but when I fail to find it its fate will be to wind up as a sad smeerand unplanned laundry. #BlindProblems

I was singing "Working Man" at my favourite subway station today and I was suddenly joined in harmoney by an older West Indian lady. So joyful! We talked music, and then sang "Song For A Winter's Night," before she offered me a generous tip then slid away into the subway stream. Her name is Sandy. Thanks Sandy! #HappyBuskingMoments

I was on a Zoom call today with other Toronto Subway buskers as part of a research project. I nearly burst into tears hearing other buskers describe the ways people tell them how much their music moves, comforts or energizes. This is something I know well from years of experience, and hearing other buskers say it out loud was incredibly poignant.

I had two errands today that took me know further than 400m from my home. In that time, someone who told me he'd been instructed by God gave me $5, and a woman told me, while I was focussed on crossing an extremely busy intersection with my white cane, that it'd be better if I had someone with me. I so wanted to stop and have her break down for me exactly how that statement was meant to help me, but I decided to spend my energy on reaching the kerb alive rather than on a witty come back. RE: the $5, my polacy is to refuse once, then just take the money. Curious how other blind folk handle the money situation.

Mastodonians, I'm going to be trapped in Nanaimo BC between Oct. 7 and 13 visiting in-laws who have narrow lives, don't like each other, and watch a lot of TV. As a Blind person even just going out for a walk on my own is more stressful than relaxing. I'm looking for rescue plans, to connect with folk who might want to walk or hike, who know about any live music or music jams, or who I could claim to be acquainted with on social media and want to meet in person for a coffee. If the stars align I'll get away to the mainland to spend Saturday and Sunday with my brother, but would love to find sanity saving escape strategies for an hour or 3 at a time on other days. No ax murderers please.

I was at a storytelling workshop yesterday and was given an excellent exercise as a story writer/creator. Imagine you're at a farmer's market and they're giving out high quality samples. Imagine that you can choose one sentence of your story to be a metaphorical cube of cheese or slice of fruit. What sentence Do you choose?
