I popped out to the airport this afternoon to see if there was anything interesting about. Not really.
But as I arrived at one of the popular photography spots, I was walking past another photographer when he very politely said hello.
Long story short, he was a young man from Beijing. We ended up chatting for a while, even though he had some trouble with English at times.
A very interesting man with some stories to tell, as well as some really impressive photos. For my part I shared some local knowledge with him and we compared cameras as I was ever so slightly jealous of his.
Amazing who you can meet through shared interests.

Tōrea
It is interesting how one's regular 'stomping ground' may affect which birds you commonly see. The Tōrea Pango is classified as Uncommon Endemic, yet I see them often. It is counterintuitive, to me, that the Tōrea (South Island Pied Oystercatcher, Haematopus finschi) pictured here is classified as Abundant Endemic, yet I captured my first photos in winter 2025! I encountered a small flock — a dozen or so — around the Pāuatahanui Inlet, over two days in mid-June.

I was looking at my Adobe plan. Specifically, changing to a different one.
Then I see they have a plan comparison tool. A tool so... ridiculous... that it thinks Lightroom is good for graphic design, but Photoshop not so much.
It was pointlessly misleading in much worse ways than that, but that was the easiest of the insanities to describe.
Oh, I suppose another easy one is that the (no longer offered) Photography Plan includes Lightroom, Photoshop, and some other software. The **LIGHTROOM PLAN** contains... Acrobat and some other software.
I'm going with Hanlon's Razor because if it was malice, it was frankly hilarious.

Just heard on the lunchtime news that there are no reports of any deaths or serious injuries anywhere as a result of the Pacific tsunami.
Take a bow, emergency planners of the Pacific region.
With so much crappy news around at the moment, it's lovely to hear that sometimes, people do their job really well and lives get saved.

Any electronics peeps in/around Wellington NZ that would be interested in a little linear dual tracking lab power supply? Capable of around +-18V and has current limiting. Obvs. not as impressive as modern designs but still quite useful if you are into opamps/simple audio design.
Ideally I’d really like this to go to a young person who has the enthusiasm but perhaps not the means. We were all there once hey!?
Free. Collect Western Hills Lower Hutt.

All I want AI to do is to keep my TV’s volume level consistent. None of this level 65 for Disney+ and 10 for YouTube shit. This is all I want AI to do. Nothing more, nothing less.
