This is epic Arctic history, superbly told. The time and care Calum put into this production is evident, a triumph.

I recommend spending twenty minutes or so of your time on this excellent and very accessible history of the English language over the last 1500 years or so. It should be compulsory for little englanders. It also reminds me how bad my history teacher was.
There are two kittens in this photo I took last night, I swear.

Being tired is not a badge of honor. It just means you're tired.
I think this article pretty well sums up my own feelings about LLMs and the current push towards more generative AI. https://eev.ee/blog/2025/07/03/the-rise-of-whatever/
"But I think the core of what pisses me off is that selling this magic machine requires selling the idea that doing things is worthless."
Yet more companies laying off employees not because AI is replacing them, but because they need more money to fund their AI. I can't remember the last time I saw sunk cost fallacy at this scale.

This says a lot:
"The 2026 World Humanist Congress will now take place in Ottawa, Canada, after escalating religious nationalism and human rights concerns in the United States made it unsafe and inaccessible for many attendees. Humanists International and Humanist Canada will co-host the 2026 event."

Just fixed some broken links in an old (2006) blog post because it seems relevant again... ( @jackyan )

Starship v2 so far:
10 tests
- 0 made it to orbit
- has never opened its payload doors
- has littered the Caribbean Sea with hundreds of tons highly pollutant debris
New today:
- destroyed their test launch site.
Little NASA comparison from the first stage of the Artemis test.
- Only one test
- Successful launch and orbit
- Established a lunar transfer trajectory (went to THE MOON)
- Deployed a full sized human-rated capsule
- It did a flyby of the moon
- It re-injected itself in a return trajectory
- The capsule returned to Earth
- Re-entered the atmosphere, landed safely.
A flawless, multi stage, full test in a perfectly executed mission by NASA.
But, government is inefficient, etc.

Global EV sales are ramping up in record numbers again as people get sick of this nonsense.
On that note, tonight's video may trigger some anti-EV & anti-solar troll tears so get your buckets ready.
Been an EV nut for 30+ years and those early years were tough so it feels damn good to find myself on the winning team at last. 😎
