As Chief Advisor China, Kevin Tu focuses on China's relationships with major economies and their implications for global climate and energy policy. Building on his experience as Founding and Managing Director of our strategic partner organisation Agora Energy China in Beijing, he will continue to provide strategic insights and strengthen cross-regional dialogue and energy transition collaboration. 3/x
Elrika Hamdi brings nearly two decades of experience in energy finance and policy. She will lead our work across Southeast Asia, advancing policy solutions for grid modernisation, renewable energy, industrial decarbonisation and the phase-down of fossil energy. Before joining Agora, she served as Deputy Head of Indonesia's Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) Secretariat and held roles at IEEFA as well as with organisations including UNEP, USAID and GIZ. 2/x

✔️ Sustainable biomass supply relies increasingly on agricultural sources, including fast-growing trees, grasses and residues, alongside resilient forest management practices and sustainable food systems. This approach enhances carbon sinks, supports ecosystem health and creates new revenue streams for farmers and foresters. 6/x
✔️ Using biomass where it creates the greatest value can unlock new bio-based value chains in construction, chemicals and advanced materials. This can stimulate innovation, create new lead markets and strengthen Europe’s industrial competitiveness while reducing reliance on fossil-based feedstocks. 5/x
✔️ More targeted biomass use: Biomass use moves away from low-value energy applications such as heating and road transport towards higher-value material uses. Remaining energy uses focuses on back-up power generation and, in limited cases, the decarbonisation of hard-to-electrify sectors such as aviation. 4/x
✔️ Demand growth: The share of biomass used for materials increases from 38 percent today to 56 percent by 2050, driven by growth in construction, furniture, pulp and textiles and a nine-fold increase in bio-based chemicals. 3/x

💡 Setting targets that work: Any new EU electrification target must complement ambitious renewable energy targets, be defined with national and sectoral granularity, and backed by clear data.
🛠️ Deploying existing solutions: Faster grid connections, carbon contracts for difference (CCfDs), competitive electricity-to-gas price ratios and targeted support like social leasing schemes to ensure the transition is both fast and fair. 3/x
Currently, electricity accounts for just 23% of the EU’s final energy consumption – a figure that has remained stagnant despite Europe’s climate ambition.
Yet, the momentum is there: in 2025, Europe saw over 2.2 million heat pump installations, and EV market share climbed to 19%.
