“Painting with the Web” is a terrific wide-ranging talk from @matthiasott at BT which I highly recommend for anyone curious for an overview of what’s terrific about the web in general but HTML and CSS. #WEBDEV #CSS https://youtu.be/1Pq7VqNrtk4

Fantastic news! We've reached 1 million votes! But please keep sharing and voting in case some votes are invalid!
EU citizens, please sign this petition to ban so-called "conversion therapy" in the EU. It's a practice that's extremely harmful towards LGBTQ+ people.
The site is a little slow, but keep trying!
https://eci.ec.europa.eu/043/public/#/screen/home
It's already banned in some countries but we need a EU wide ban!
We now have eight countries past their thresholds, and we have at least 1,000,000 total votes.
So keep signing & voting!

The next #PermaComputing Berlin Meet up is this Sunday 18. May:
## DITHERING HEIGHTS ##
Image dithering was once a clever trick for digital imaging on limited hardware in the 1980s. It largely faded from memory as higher power graphic hardware become more ubiquitous. But recently, among those of us interested in a smaller more efficient web, it is having a bit of a renaissance. However, it's not without its critics. This PMC Berlin session will demonstrate and discuss techniques and styles for making images as small as possible. Florian Stolzenhain will bring his ancient Mac and show us some possibilities. We will have a general discussion of limited-palette aesthetics, dirt-style compression and dithering discontents.

✹✹✹ personal website moment - maintenance ✹✹✹
Hi BXL,
We, Marie & Martin (@clemtre) have this idea to organize a day to take care of our personal websites communally. We'd like to come together in an informal in-person on-comptuer work-session, sharing food, drink & advice
You are welcome to come, learn next to us and ask questions, yet this day is not intended as an introduction making websites.
Where? In Bruxelles, probably at my co-working space near Zuid Station.
When? Sunday, June 1st 2025 (to be confirmed)
Are you interested, wanna comme? let us know here or via email > marie(at)verdeil(dot)net

🎧 United In Flames w/ Oklou & Malibu
> Malibu is a French electronic musician whose work sails between ambient and ethereal music. Forever inspired by soft reverbed vocals and melodious chord progressions, Malibu’s music is an immersive nostalgic journey in a sea of synthetic strings and choirs.

Figma (Sites) creating inaccessible, non-semantic div soup? I’m not surprised at all. That’s basically the main point of the talk I just gave at #btconf. Figma is for painting beautiful pictures of websites. Not for making websites. We make websites with semantic HTML, declarative CSS, JavaScript for the things only JavaScript can do, and a bit of ARIA. That’s how this medium works. That’s the material.
I'm starting to redesign my website in the open, and I'll be documenting changes as I go. No frameworks, no templates – just words and intention.
"There's some kind of an undisputed beauty in a plain HTML page."

Kelli Anderson made an activation video (to tease bookstores) of her upcoming pop-up book on how letters got their shapes... and it looks bananas: https://vimeo.com/1082361049/54eb30d072 😍
(Unsurprising if you know Kelli’s work and the amount of artistry she brings to everything)
