In this blog post, we introduce the new kernel concept for TUXEDO OS based on Debian Testing. The challenge in developing and maintaining our own kernel is to provide a foundation that is as up to date as possible and tailored to TUXEDO hardware. Especially with brand-new hardware, the kernel provided by a stable Debian release is often not recent enough. For the new TUXEDO OS, we therefore use a current kernel and supplement it with TUXEDO-specific patches and configuration adjustments as part of the kernel build process. In addition to the current linux-tuxedo kernel, we will also offer linux-tuxedo-lts, a kernel with long-term support.
