The main idea was to have a high-end enclosure for the classic MNT Reform mainboard to give it a second life, but you can as well build an open hardware computer from the parts.

And yes the only mini USB connector I had was in a shitty TI devkit, the only reason I still have mini USB cables at all
I was correct and also wrong in ways I could not have imagined!
It is a tactile switch thats just wired directly into the cable but there are also resistors and a capacitor, maybe low pass filter idk
Unpopulated LED might have been for power indication when they had one more conductor in that cable.
The switch does not ground the ID pin, that would have been sensible, no it grounds D- for some reason.
1. I think its just a tactile button and nothing else
2. They wanted to use the USB OTG ID pin present in Mini USB to get away with wiring a button into a USB connector and not do a egregious violation of the electrical spec
Ok so this USB switch (as in KVM, not a hub) has a mini USB connector for its control input, the control box is this black box with a button.

1. What it communicates to switch between the two hosts
2.Why mini USB when they clearly already employ a USB-C connector

The controller transplant was surprisingly easy, 2 evenings while watching some YouTube. Moving a few crimps around but otherwise plug and play, most stuff used the exact same wiring harness, most time consuming was messing with the controller settings.

Anyone have recommendations for a multi channel (4ch+) energy analyzer? Think Joulescope but does not need to have that precision or bandwidth, something in the Nordic PPK2 class is perfectly fine.
Ideally fully isolated frontend and good software for realtime PC side capture of data.
I want to avoid using an Oscilloscope because big and usually very cumbersome to setup with software and shunt etc
Ease of use and quick measurement setup is most important.
