I read this article this week and thought to myself that although I’ve seen many dragonflies I’d never seen this. Today on my walk, at a pond near a marsh these were everywhere. One flew around me and almost into my face.

My mother’s maiden name was Lyster and she liked to say that’s why she made so many lists. As we approach the problem of cleaning out the house, selling it and moving I find I am living up to my ancestors’ legacy.

I put a pot of hummingbird favorite salvia outside a screened kitchen window where Bridget likes to sit and 3 times now at least a hummingbird has flown to within 5 inches of her and hung in the air just looking at her.

Not sure if it thinks the pupils of her eyes look like nectar pools or if it just thinks she's really cute but she's thrilled when it happens, her whole body tense. Today one little white paw twitched like she wanted to bat it out of the air. #birds #cats

On the 17th of April I walked along the park fence and could smell the sweet apple blossoms before I got to them. Yesterday I took the same walk and could smell the apples before I got there. #Seasons keep turning. And I’m grateful for the bees who made that change possible.

Right about half way through #August things in the #garden start to get out of hand. But in a good way. Still, I always think how wise it is to have autumn and winter come and calm things down so we can start over in spring. Until then let the flowers and the pollinators have their heyday.

Yesterday at the farmers market a neighbor came up behind me and said, “Don’t move!” I froze and looked around to see if I was near a wasp or something else dangerous. Then she said, “We’ll miss you. You’ve been a good neighbor.”

And I realized I had misunderstood what she meant. I said thank you! And that I was sorry I had never been very social. And her adult son who was with her said, “That’s what made you a good neighbor!” And we all laughed. It was a nice little interaction. : )

I wanted to get a picture of at least one of the great black wasps frequenting the swamp milkweed but they made it clear I needed to back off so I did. Beautiful creatures but will advance aggressively if they start to feel crowded. #insects

Moving things around in the process of getting ready to move we found an old mouse, the only toy mouse Bridget ever cared about. It had been years since she saw it but she’s overjoyed and is playing with it the way she did long ago! #cats
