💁🏻‍♀️ TIL: 🐦🩹 A #whitethroat struck by a car was brought to the #Leicestershire #Wildlife Hospital with feet curled up and unable to grip from nerve or ligament damage.

Staff built tiny casts from cardboard, #cotton wool, and micropore tape to cushion and steady the feet while they heal. The #bird, an amber-listed species of #conservation concern in the #UK, is recovering well and expected to be released soon.

I feel like I’m living in a rainforest! On the positive side we’ve only run our irrigation system for 12 days this summer and that was mostly the drip zones during the hottest days. My rain barrels are perpetually full. On the downside, our beautiful Rose of Sharon is dying from too much water.

The mosquito traps I set up this year have seemingly decimated the local mosquito population. I walked the garden yesterday and didn’t encounter a single one. Normally I’d be waving my arms like mad.
