So if you're wondering how great #RustLang is, let's talk about #mypy. Mypy introduced its own Rust - #Python package, ast-serialize. This package had a deep crate dependency that was broken on PowerPC. The issue was fixed a month ago but everything is still blocked on a deep chain of dependencies being updated and released.

Okay, not using "#AI" isn't hard.
It's not like anybody's asking you to switch to a more expensive vegan diet when you've been eating meat all your life and you have a bunch of health issues that make any diet changes hard.
It's more like deciding not to switch from a normal diet to one primarily based on McDonald's just because everyone else thinks it's cool, and also you're going to save some time on cooking (at the cost of driving there and back all the time).
What we're literally asking you to consider is to keep doing things like you do, without engaging in a pointless, expensive, destructive hype just because "everyone" thinks it's so great and it gives you positive reinforcement. It's "you've managed not to be a dork so far, why'd you suddenly want to pay extra to become one?"
If anyone's wondering, #Xfce is a #slop junk now too, and the author is busy writing long excuses for them, with full realization of how harmful they are.
Time for another book on my #Bookstodon: "Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents" by Isabel Wilkerson. I'm pretty sure I've read it because someone recommended it on Fedi, and it's a good recommendation. However, note it's a bit on the emotionally heavy side.
The book is built upon a thesis that the racism in the USA is actually a caste system. It covers a lot: the history from slavery through Jim Crow regime to today's white supremacist movements and US elections; comparisons to India and Nazi Germany; detailed analysis of causes ("pillars of caste") and consequences. As it turns out, these can be pretty detrimental to the dominant caste itself too. All of it is illustrated by many examples and personal stories.
It's an important read, and it reads really good though. However, it weighs heavily, so I had to take breaks while reading it.
2000s: big game companies publish their old games for free download, because they aren't selling them anymore, and who would buy them anyway? Also, that's good marketing to sell new games.
2020s: big game companies are impotent to make new games that aren't crap. Instead, they keep selling old games, remasters of old games (both "enhancing" and "retro" remasters) and reboots of old games.

Zero days since #pip added a random new functionality that depends on pip being entirely standalone and breaks when you unbundle the dependencies. And I'm unable to figure out why a bunch of tests are still failing.

I'm trying to keep an open mind.
When someone I used to respect starts using LLMs, I'm thinking: okay, their moral compass is bad, but at least they're putting an effort to review that stuff and they're trying to improve other projects.
When that person writes a pro-AI blog post, complaining that people aren't respecting them anymore, I'm still trying to stay neutral.
But honestly, when said person starts ranting that Codeberg dared ban vibecoded shit, I can't but despise them at this point.
@mrmasterkeyboard, also note that their auto-filing doesn't include comments, etc. You need to say "all" instead.
In the meantime, #GitPython, the package that used to be dead (because the author is busily working on their next great thing) is now slopping out 4 "security" releases a week, as their #slop machine is busily fixing unintended variable expansion in every single URL they call. Unfortunately, they probably don't have enough tokens to fix them all at once, so instead all downstreams have to deal with the churn of endless security release. Or the brain to figure out that maybe they could just disable variable expansion by default and solve them all at once.
It's truly a great time to be a #Python packager.
