The joys of corporate life.

I currently work for a bank. That bank used to have 3 business lines: RB, PB and CB (retail, private and commercial banking). A few years ago, they reorganised them to CB, WM and PBB (corporate banking, wealth management and personal & business banking).

They always use just the acronyms everywhere, and one of the new acronyms is exactly the same as an old one, but means something completely different! Can you guess the confusion that can cause?

Some systems have fields for both the old and the new side by side, which creates an obvious conflict, so those systems call corporate banking CRB. Makes sense, except systems that only have the new set, need to remember to fill their values for CB from the CRB field in the other system, and not the CB field.

So that's a thing that went wrong and took me a couple of hours to figure out because some people in the C-Suite thought they were being funny.

I've been spending my morning fighting an army of tankies or Russian trolls on Lemmy worldnews. People there are seriously arguing that Russian state media is more reliable on Russian atrocities than western media, and I'm just baffled that they even think anyone would believe that.
