I want a society designed around people.
Not quarterly profits.
Not shareholder value.
Not “disruption.”
Not making some tech bro with a rocket fetish another billion richer.
And certainly not teaching human beings to arrange their lives around whatever algorithm happens to be hungry today.
Technology is a tool.
A magnificent one! Give me solar panels, open-source software, accessible public transport, robots doing the filthy and dangerous jobs, libraries full of knowledge, green cities, beautiful trains, community gardens, and machines that quietly make everyone's lives easier.
But the question should always be:
“Does this make human life better?”
Not:
“Can we monetise it?”
Not:
“Can we automate it?”
Not:
“Can we scale it to infinity?”
And definitely not:
“Can we make people click on it 47 times before they can see the thing they actually wanted?”
😌
I don't want a shiny dystopia with better branding.
I want technology serving people.
Cities serving communities.
Economies serving human flourishing.
Humanity living as part of nature rather than treating the planet like a particularly inconvenient warehouse.
Build things that help us live.
Build things that help us care for one another.
Build things that give people more time to be alive.
And if your business model requires everyone to be miserable so that you can become a trillionaire…
Darling.
Perhaps your business model is the thing that needs disrupting. 💅🌱
