Anybody self host their blog on their sbc or pc at home? Is there a good tutorial I can follow? I'm especially concerned about opening up ports or exposing my home ip to randos.

Took apart the 10-year-old brother laser printer. Printouts were coming out wavy. I don't know if I fixed it, but it was fun taking it apart and then wondering if I'd be able to put it back together.

#freesoftwareadvent Day 22: #elementaryos !!! It's the first linux os I tried and it currently runs on my mom's laptop. They've just come out with Elementary OS 8.1 and it looks like it's a fairly substantial release. The dock and the accessibility features look like they're especially welcome. Shout out to those who made it possible to also run it on Arm. It's going on a spare Raspberry Pi 5 right now. I'll report back to let you know how it runs.

#freesoftwareadvent Day 20: Foliate. Read lots of EPUBs? You're probably already using Calibre as your library and as your default EPUB reader, but sometimes you want something that looks a little nicer. Foliate is the reader that looks a little nicer. It also has nifty functions, like a context menu when you highlight a word that can pull up a dictionary or Wikipedia. Naturally, you can highlight passages and annotate them, if you wish.

#freesofadvent Day 7 is #deltachat by @delta Use it everyday to communicate with family across a variety of devices. And now they're adding voice and video calls. PLUS, the small applets within the conversations, like grocery lists, are super useful.

I've begun to write terrible science fiction with a friend I've recently met. I also have a secret blog.

I've lived on three different continents and I'd like to travel some more. My partner and my kids are great adventurers, too.

Last week I met a saint, a charlatan, a lord, and a spy.

Tomorrow, my eldest has a play date. I don't like talking to other parents. It's weird: "so hey, did you hear about all the people moving from Twitter to Mastodon?"

Hi all, I've never properly introduced myself though I've been tooting for a little while now. I like it here. It's weird and it's comfortable.

I work as an assistant professor of history at a university in India. I study the French Empire in North Africa. I'm currently trying to transform my dissertation into a monograph. Perfectionism is going to get the best of me, though.
