I have never owned or played a GTA game and my life as a gamer has been rich I'm just saying

Ok the universe conspired against me all day yesterday but I'm pretty sure the problem is that Godot by default limits is physics loop to 60 ticks per second so if you're running at a higher framerate than that you can render a frame and run all the frame update code without updating the physics?

I may be wrong about that, but based on everything I've read so far it sounds like that's possible, and it would explain literally every problem I have.

Dedicating the entire day to figuring out some shapecasting weirdness in Godot.

Inconsistent ray/shapecast collision detection is the root of basically every bug I've ever struggled to fix in any Godot project- every time I try to dig in I find a bunch of github issues with no resolution and terribly uninformed discussions on godot's forums, but I'm determined to really figure it out.

Anyway I think I fixed a bug that's been plaguing me since the start of this project but it should have been easy to figure out because this should have been a note in the docs.

TIL if you run Godot's physics on a separate thread, shapecasting outside of _PhysicsProcess is uselessly unpredictable and ForceShapecastUpdate() (which they explicitly tell you in the docs to use for doing this thing) returns an error.

Every time an AI article, particularly about Anthropic, talks about safeguards, I'm reminded of how we now know their safeguards are just a bunch of additional prompts prepended to the user's prompt begging Claude to not be an asshole.

So when they talk about adding stronger safeguards they likely mean adding an "I really mean it for really real don't exploit any vulnerabilities you find without asking first" to that.

Or I just drive and get exactly enough sleep, arrive exactly when I need to, have the flexibility to change my schedule on the fly, and save money.......

I'm not making a pro-car argument here, I'm lamenting the fact that it's really the only way to get everything I need to get done, done.

The rails exist in MA- Getting from western mass to Boston and back without a car shouldn't be logistically difficult.

The Lakeshore Limited will do it, and it's lovely, but it leaves once a day from Western Mass at 6pm, arriving in Boston at 8pm.

So if I want to actually do anything, I have to spend an extra $200 for a hotel room to do it the next day. It leaves Boston at noon or something, so then you need to stay another night unless your thing is super early in the morning.

A lot of the time when I'm planning trip, the logistics of it all kind of just magically align.

This is not one of those times.

It's looking like I can either be a little bit late for everything or not get any sleep and have too much free time.

I have a Windows desktop that has a persistent random shutdown (no bsod) that I've been trying to troubleshoot for weeks now.

I haven't been able to reproduce it by running stress tests, but it only seems to happen while a game is running.

Though that said, I've left a game running on it for 8 hours with no problem.

I also booted in to memtest and let it do its thing for 8 hours and it passed all 4 passes of all the tests.

Event viewer doesn't show much, but at this point I'm totally willing to blame Windows itself.

Sitting here trying to figure out whether to take the whole thing apart and put it back together again in the vain hope that that makes it better and not worse, or to just install Bazzite on it and see if it craps out during raid tonight.

still progging m10s, we're mostly clean on bubble now and moving into split arena- Thursday we might have a shot at a clear.

We've battled internet issues, weather, and bad shrimp, so we're on the back foot, but morale is good and we're still moving at a pace everyone is happy with.

Really happy to have found such a laid back and frankly hilarious crew of people to play with.

Sometimes I feel bad watching other groups blow through savage when the fastest we've gotten through a tier is 11 weeks.

But then I remember that our group is specifically formed around the fact that we all have RL commitments and limited time, and if we were able to grind out entire days of prog at a time we'd be at around the same pace.

I think we're almost done with the 0th fight of the tier- everyone having a stable enough connection to the server to start

...aaaaaand the server crashed
