America is in line at the airport. America has its shoes off, is carrying a rubberized bin, is going through a magnetometer. America is worried there is fungus on the floor after a million stockinged feet have walked on it. But America knows not to ask. America is guilty until proved innocent, and no one wants to draw undue attention.

Picard management tip: Be comfortable with approximations. Best guesses in advance are more useful than complete certainty after the fact.

He refused all offers of food and drink, spat and swore at anyone who came near him, and smeared the walls with his own faeces.

After that, we never played Monopoly again.

Every time I see someone complain about whites or Boomers, I feel frustrated. It's not that their concerns are without merit, but this is PRECISELY what the wealthy and powerful want from us—pointing fingers at each other while they collect an ever-bigger piece of the economic pie. Maybe if we stopped blaming each other and looked at what is happening in the US and the world, we could work together rather than broadly categorize people's opinions or actions by race or age.

these SSH polls are reminding me that (though I'm not a security person) I'm a big believer that security systems should allow users to be inattentive and lazy and confused and to do the thing that seems the most convenient instead of the the thing that might be the most secure, and to still enable good security
