So my last #library #book was The Steampunk Trilogy by Paul DeFilippo. 3 short stories in one book. The first two stories were positively delightfully bonkers stories. Never knew what kind of ridiculousness you'd find by the end of the page! The third story...I couldn't finish. The pacing was off and I just couldn't get into it. I did feel like every story I had to wait a little bit to become invested in the characters and their story so maybe I would've found joy if I stuck with it but I didn't.

But all had really fun tie-ins to real history and real historical figures, including a young Queen Victoria, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, Walt Whitman, Fredrick Douglas and more, but also events such as the Great Molasses Flood

Super neat book and the stories I did read were well worth it!

So last night I finished the #book Autonomous by Anna Lee Newitz. Super neat cyberpunk-themed book focused on a pirate who copies patented pharmaceuticals to ensure everyone can access needed treatments, but also covering the autonomy and lack thereof of both humans and robots in a world where both can face indenture if they lack the financial means to escape it.

I initially wanted something not dystopian and was taken by the sea-fairing patent-violating piracy, but then as more of the legal structure of this 22nd century world was revealed, it was clearly very dystopian. Brilliant writing and a creepily realistic political environment!

So I did not finish the big charity #ride today. I got about 5 miles out, and on the 7th hill (which was an over 100 foot climb on its own) I tapped out and had to lay in the grass for half an hour before limping back to the car.

I did however get to stop at the Toy Train Barn since that was nearby. I haven't been there since I was a kid! #biketooter

Looking for some #hobby #advice as a #dad for stuff to do while my kids are awake. I have an autistic and nonverbal 3 year old who tends to destroy things and a bossy 5 year old. (Other limitations are the kids both get super bad Eczema from the sun/heat, and I also have cats who try to destroy everything, and to top it off I'm presently unemployed so finances are tight) I've been just playing video games or watching TV/Movies with the kids but honestly I just end up feeling unfulfilled if I do that for more than an hour or two. What are some good hobbies I can pick up to spend more productive time with the kids? #dadlife

#BikeNiteQ What's good gear for cold weather riding? Right now I just grab whatever I have that semi-works but I think I might need to invest in some actual gear for cold weather riding. I have a long scarf that I can kinda cover my face with (it always moves either away from my mouth so I freeze my lungs or moves so its covering my ears and once even my eyes, and its long and runs the risk of dangling into my wheels or chains) and I have some imperfect gloves plus I'll rock whatever my day to day winter coat is, but is there better gear to keep my legs and face warm? I'll usually ride down to freezing or so, but on colder days my rides are short because I'm not appropriately dressed to be out in that weather.

For context, I'm in southern Wisconsin, so also any winter day might be 50 degrees, it might be 0 degrees, and a few days out of the year it plunges as low as -40 with the windchill #bikenite
