This isn’t about Linux. It’s about building and systematically growing a technology-backed ideology of hate. It’s about creating a space in FOSS where hate can flourish, and overriding systems of accountability by making them irrelevant.
I worry that some people aren’t taking Omarchy seriously enough. It’s not just another Linux distro. It’s a well-orchestrated campaign to centralize power and influence within the Linux FOSS ecosystem. And it’s working.
Anyone paying attention to DHH and what he stands for can see what’s going on here. When the guy who thinks that brown people don’t belong in society hires the guy who thinks trans people shouldn’t exist, you can see where this is going.

Those guys all struggle with accountability. Receiving criticism for a bad take is healthy and good. Listening to people and learning from them is healthy and good. Understanding how your views can propagate harm and then making appropriate changes is healthy and good.
But grabbing your toys and going home? Weak-ass sauce, as ever.
Another privileged white developer posted a terrible take, received appropriate criticism for it, and then left the Fediverse.
Be on the lookout for the other privileged white developers who will inevitably point to this as an example of how "social media is toxic", or "Mastodon isn't welcoming". Those guys are only interested in protecting their friends and pushing their weird agendas.
The only people who can afford to turn a blind eye to the cruel realities of our current era are people who have the same skin color as Marco, who live in the same affluent places as Marco, and who have the same kind of stable income as Marco.
For the entire other half of our country, it's a different story. And *that* half is depending on the privileged white half to please fucking *do* something besides pumping out stupid blog posts calling for the polite acceptance of hateful people.
It's one thing to yearn for the simpler times of our own youth, but it's something else to advocate for ignorance as an ethical living strategy at this point in our history.
The problem with Marco Arment's "we're better off when we don't know our neighbors' political opinions" thing is that in any given neighborhood, there are neighbors who literally believe that some of their other neighbors should not exist. Do you really think you're better off not knowing about that? Are your marginalized neighbors better off as a result of your ignorance?

Apologies for the slowness and timeouts with social.lol earlier. I'm still sifting through log files, but here's what happened:
Between 18:55–19:18 UTC, the server saw a massive spike in traffic and overall load. Traffic jumped from our normal baseline of ~1,500 requests/min to ~10,000 requests/min. During that time, 75% of all requests bore the User-Agent string "Lightpanda/1.0". Lightpanda is a headless browser engine commonly used by AI agents and other automation.
What makes this especially annoying was that these requests were spread over 38,341 distinct IP addresses. This effectively behaved like a DDoS, though it's impossible to say whether that was the goal (or if scraping was the goal). In any case, the sheer volume of unique IPs meant that the actor was able to circumvent Mastodon's usual rate limits and negatively impact the broader server performance.
