Wait, wait, hold up a second.

I just found out that lemons are not a natural fruit but a deliberately cultivated hybrid between citron and a bitter orange.

Guys! Life didn't give us lemons we made them ourselves!

#scam

So #berlin, I got an extra ticket for Enter Shikari (supported by the Callous Daoboys) for Saturday, November 7th.

Any takers?

Siri, show me the ADHD meme that goes harder than any other...

EIZO ECL Screen showing the 3/50 firmware and a strange Sun-3 keyboard from a Compugraphics/AGFA typesetting machine (which we were unable to get to work so far)…

Hey, psst - are you a Boston area game developer who actively dislikes ai/LLMs... and feels out of place in the local scene?

Reach out, I'm putting something together.

(Do you need to be Boston area? No! But I'm just trying to make baby steps in reaching out...)

I'm at the point where I don't even want opt-in "'AI' capability" in any software I'm forced to use, because the griftslop bastards will absolutely steal everything, nailed down or not, EVEN IF the settings are turned to "no, no, absolutely not, HELL no."

Stray Kitten Report 7: slow progress with the little female, Charlotte, and that's a big contrast with Charlie, who now uses the cat door and visits home by himself. But she starts to play a lot.

She's got that tiny face, mini paws, major eye makeup, and dramatic meows. She can't resist stealing the cat toys she plays with and hoarding them under our garden wood cabin. A little diva, but she also loves wrestling matches with Charlie. I'll show you that under ↓🧵

... what

You know philosopher and professional Israel-apologist Michael Walzer, whose life's work is held up by the notion that the morality of deciding to go to war is fundamentally separate from the morality of how you conduct that war?

Turns out that Israel's conduct in Gaza is ⋅so⋅ obscenely immoral that – despite having started off having credulously swallowed even the most blatantly inane Israeli propaganda hook, line, and sinker – Walzer is now ready to throw his life's work overboard at age ninety and concede that the way Israel is waging war is so utterly indefensible that it spills over into making the war itself indefensible.

@frincon @hannorein @keithnator3000 I don't think so. What the community consistently does not do was call out any freeloaders and anyone doing open-washing. I'm against any sort of purity tests, but by and large it has been a generational movement with seniors grandfathered in kicking and screaming. And boohoo if they were called out for it.

@keithnator3000 Yeah, I have no idea how things will turn out. For me as an academic, I think very soon anyone will be able to reimplement/vibe-code the software I write for astrophysics from "scratch" using AI. But of course, "scratch" really is "all human knowledge" including all my previous software. So I definitely think of it as theft. But I suspect scientists who just care about the end result and consider my software just a tool will no longer cite my papers.

I just saw this new paper on the arxiv:

AI and The Enclosure of the Scientific Commons

Very interesting and worth a read!

Advice for female-presenting persons: if a male doctor asks if you've been under stress lately: SAY NO. Tell him life is great. Don't budge. Make the fucker actually figure out what's wrong.

I don't know a single woman who hasn't gotten the stress brush-off, only to get a real diagnosis later.

It's bullshit. Sometimes lying to your doctor is the right thing to do.
