Consequences of accepting GS-12 vs GS-13?
So I am part of the mandated insourcing going on... Where I work is an equal mix of civil servants and contractors in a role that is "badgeless", i.e. outside of where our timesheets go, there is very little difference between the civil servants and contractors. For the past 10 years or so, regardless of their background, civil servant trainees have been brought in under GS-12, and once they get their certs in line and are a full member of the team, they get bumped to GS-13. I've 20 years of experience, with about 9-10 years of experience directly in this role at the GS-13 level, frequently having GS-13s working under me. They're now telling me that they don't have enough GS-13 spots in the insourcing, and are asking me to take a GS-12 slot at a high step if I want to stay on the team. (When civil servant trainees fresh out of college who I have onboarded and mentored are all 13s.) Outside of the pay, what are the consequences of me accepting a GS-12 at a high step vs GS-13 at a mid step (where the rest of my colleagues are being mapped)It sounds to me like I will be accepting on paper that I have less experience in the role than my own trainees, and this is going to hold me back substantially career wise.
