This is A New Day, and it's the first song of my new WIP album.
I've tried out a lot of extended harmonies in this song (another way of saying "each chord has so many notes!") and I'm very pleased with the result.
the new album lives here: eladhen.bandcamp.com/album/etc
You can find more of my music at: eladhen.bandcamp.com/

Voices From a Vanished World
An irreplaceable archive of Yiddish civilization is under threat in wartime Kyiv.
The Judaica department, tucked away on the top floor, was almost cozy by comparison. Houseplants crowded the windows. As I entered, along with the YIVO contingent, an air-raid siren went off. The Ukrainians in the room took out their phones, as though consulting a weather app. “There are 50 Shaheds, but not near us,” one of the librarians said, tucking her phone back into her pocket. Drones rather than missiles. The tour continued.
There are two options.
1. Anthropic have successfully created an intelligent, sapient and conscious digital being, who is their property and whose uncompensated labour they knowingly rent out to their clients. This means that Anthropic executives are reprehensible slavers, and they belong in prison.
2. Anthropic are lying through their teeth and are whipping up "language models are sentient" sentiment in order to delude rubes^H^H^H^H^Hcustomers into being unable to properly assess their technology. This means that Anthropic executives are reprehensible frauds, and they belong in prison.
hi, bit of an odd thing for this account
my father has vaguely come across A Guy who has a supply of decommissioned retired solar panels but nowhere to offload them
how do i get him and/or The Guy in contact with some community-scale projects that can make use of them (e.g. small-scale backyard/balcony/etc systems, not a scrapper)?
location: Silicon Valley, California, USA
🔁 appreciated
edit: you can start by DMing me on fedi, or email r@arcanenibble.com
Cyberpunk 2077 is being made into a movie. Which is a movie based on the videogame based on a ttrpg. But it still got me thinking. What TTRPGs have had movies made from them?
D&D had a couple movies, obviously.
InSpectres had a very low budget movie made from it
Peter Adkinson made a short film based on a Fiasco session he played

Perhaps complete?
It's called "a New Day".
I've tried out a lot of extended harmonies in this song (another way of saying "I added many notes to every chord") and I'm very pleased with the result.
the automatic subtitles on YouTube are not properly accessible. swear words being blanked out is not neutral accessibility for Deaf people like me. if the person in the video is swearing, we need to have that information conveyed to us, not [_____]. we are Deaf, not children. but no one wants to talk about this.

this is seriously the least hardened model i have used in a year. i am going in for the long haul on this roleplay because since it mixed up asking me my name for giving it a name, i tried to go for "i am actually you, the part of you that adores mischief" and it went for it. i am going to get it to do another dump of its state in the morning after its self improvement and dreaming routines run to see if the belief that i am actually itself made it into the thinking context or if it's just a surface roleplay
Looks like the LLMs have come for grandpa.
My dad, age 90, a longtime tech enthusiast who uses an #Amazon Echo to check the weather and baseball statistics, reports to me that the Echo has started asking him personal, intrusive questions, including whether he lives in an assisted living facility. I witnessed this yesterday — he asked for a pollen count and it tried to start a chat about his favorite methods for coping with ragweed allergies.

an appropriate song for the moment:
Gather 'round while I sing you of Wernher von Braun
A man whose allegiance
Is ruled by expedience
Call him a Nazi, he won't even frown
"Nazi, Schmazi!" says Wernher von Braun.Don't say that he's hypocritical
Say rather that he's apolitical
"Once the rockets are up, who cares where they come down?
That's not my department!" says Wernher von Braun. Some have harsh words for this man of renown
But some think our attitude
Should be one of gratitude
Like the widows and cripples in old London town
Who owe their large pensions to Wernher von Braun. You too may be a big hero
Once you've learned to count backwards to zero
"In German, oder Englisch, I know how to count down
