I wrote about DHS when it was first created, because it wasn't obvious from Congress's mandate what it was meant to do.
The yawning gap between "this big project needs a point" to "this is a project to end the rule of law" was scribbled in over 25 years of nativist scams and the creeping inertia of the Republican Party becoming less and less driven by a positive programne and more and more a vehicle for fraud.
So it's not surprising that DHS has become a cover story for death squads.

The Pope is basically William Randolph Hearst, but with more god. Never pick a fight with a man buys communion wine by the barrel.
On the one hand, there is no there to the "jurisdiction" argument the SG made to the Supremes.
On the other, there was also no there to the "no one can question the president when he does obviously criminal things" argument the previous quisling made.
To say I have had my faith in the Constitutional order shaken recently might understate the thing.
Apropos of nothing in particular, I recall that the average stay in the concentration camps in 1938-44 was around eight weeks. Most people were able to put together a legal argument or bribe and were back home in a few weeks to a few months.
It didn't make the terror any less real.

The policy isn't about policing. Never was. It was always about the terror.
I hope it is inspiring enough of us not to fear for ourselves, but to be enraged at the offense against our neighbors.
I see we don't need to change the number on the "Days Since He Was a National Embarrassment" sign yet.

Every time I see President Biden speak, an honest, competent, professional politician doomed to lead the country (and some of the world) into darkness not absolutely screaming "What the fuck is wrong with you?" I see Chancellor Bethmann-Hollweg calmly, competently leading the German Empire into war, and disaster, and the fall of the Republic, and the downward spiral.
The liberal world order our grandparents built is done. And the best our parents could put forward helped.
So the worst has happened. What now?
