Apr 3, 2025, 11:09 PMSaw brownie mix in the cabinets. Urge hit but it wants vegetable oil and I only* had butter. So now in over and we shall see. Long ago, I worked a soup kitchen and this substitution is not really that radical. It will be fine.
*I had coconut oil too but I think this would shift the flavour to more tropical. Well, also olive oil but some good stuff and then I would have a Mediterranean salad brownie and who wants that.
@lauxmyth man I don't know, I feel like butter is actually the best choice regardless of what the box says.

Coconut oil or melted butter would probably work great. I also use grapeseed oil when I want a pretty neutral flavour. Since I'm leaving home for a month in a couple of weeks, I'm trying to use everything in my fridge and freezer. Some interesting combos!

Been there and cooked that. Suppers get weird but it builds the excitement for the trip.
@lauxmyth Kyle (@linux_mclinuxface) highly recommends clarified butter (ghee). I don't think the extra water in regular butter, melted, would make too much of a difference:

Ghee would work. I have used it but seldom stock it. The water did not seem to matter. Already 'tested' the pan.
