Oh hey, another hybrid project to get away from fash "AI" code: https://www.theregister.com/os-platforms/2026/10/30/alpinebsd-announced-an-ai-free-foss-os/5306589

My HP ProCurve 24port switch wasn't doing the one thing it's meant to do - switching Ethernet traffic. Fault light was blinking, together with a 4-port block of ports. A power cycle has brought everything back to working order, but I think I've lost trust in that switch now. I really didn't want to have to buy new computer gear in this economy...

Ah, the insight of children 🤭

Guess I'm not switching back to FreeBSD (which was my daily driver until I got a job working with linux).

Another Attenborough! I'm convinced that man's love for nature is what keeps him alive...

Why does this Pi not automatically load the pps-gpio kernel module even though the pps-gpio device tree overlay is loaded? Sure, I can work around it via /etc/modules, but not understanding why is picking at me...

Shaka, when the walls fell. 😔

Good to see some mainstream reporting on ribXcar.

Serious gold.

Dear mystery insect or arachnid that has bitten me over the last couple of days: please stop. It's itchy. 😩

Good morning magpie, nice to hear you join in with the chirpers. I always enjoy your singing 😊
That said, there's still no dawn cracking at the horizon...

It's not even dawn yet, what are you doing awake already, birds?

Am I missing something about the Linux kernel going AI positive? In several jurisdictions generated content cannot be copyrighted and must be clearly marked as such, and if not so done causing the entire work to be rendered without copyright. Doesn't this imply that the kernel's GPL license has been effectively nulled and voided by Linus? And if so, since he is not the sole copyright owner, is he not in violation of the GPL?

What am I missing? *Am* I missing something?

If you don't rotate your keys, how do you open most locks??

Well, my internal wiki for network configuration notes was badly out of date and needed a serious update anyway. Plus the dokuwiki didn't work on php8, so I had things pinned to php7 until I got around to looking into that.

I haven't done any of that, but I did copy out the markdown of the pages and uninstalled the whole mess. That php panic has been good for something 🙃

Some days my detangling brush is more of a tangling brush 🙄

Okay, that caffeine pill does NOT work as well as a Monster to focus my brain. Now I'm just feeling wound up AND still easily distractable 🙄

I should be asleep. I really should be asleep.

I'm not asleep.

Is it spooky time yet?
