I don’t wanna. Do I have to? What am I risking if I don’t?

My aunt’s 80th birthday is coming up, and she loves Jersey cows. Any ideas about what I might do for her on a budget? I was thinking of maybe commissioning a very small painting of a Jersey cow, especially if it’s from someone in NorCal. Any artists out there feel confident in painting a Jersey cow? Or . . . ?

Just came across this gem in a post from my dreaming teacher, Robert Moss:

“When his host found him in the seaside garden, he was like ‘a sorrowful pistachio’ . . . .”

😂🤣😂 OMG I am a sorrowful pistachio—or would be, if I weren’t incessantly giggling about it. Where my other sorrowful pistachios??

Tonight I went through a one-two punch of in-person confrontations and now I want to curl up and stay in bed forever. 🥴

A mystery island in Canada appeared . . . then disappeared.

“Carl Wilson spent years driving trucks past I-90 in Osburn, Idaho, watching elk get killed trying to cross the highway. He set out to turn an abandoned ‘bridge to nowhere’—half-demolished decades earlier by a mining company—into a wildlife overpass, rallying neighbors, businesses, and state agencies behind the idea. Wilson died in December 2022 before the project was completed. However, Kirsten Voorhees, a civil engineer who’d survived her own collision with a deer at 16, promised him she’d see it through. She did. With $645,000 in grants, the retrofit was completed in August 2025, and trail cameras have since recorded elk and deer using it safely. ‘I told him, “You have my word,”’ Voorhees said. ‘It became a blood oath.’”

“. . . This new video is among the absolute best I’ve seen as a way of introducing people to UBI. Give it a watch and share it with anyone who claims that UBI will make people ‘lazy.’ ”

“In Everything Is Going to Be Fine, the US filmmaker Ryan Malloy goes in search of answers on how he ought to prepare for the worst and, more pressingly, how he should handle his doomsday anxieties in the meantime. On a journey that includes interviews with Ian Morris (professor of Classics at Stanford University in California) and Julie Norem (professor of psychology at Wellesley College in Massachusetts), as well as time spent with ‘preppers’, his approach is fretful yet lighthearted, ultimately landing on a note of optimism.”

Anybody know anything about this, beyond that it’s Polynesian? I’m drawn to it; the figures are familiar but I can’t place them. It was a gift from one of my acupuncturist’s patients, but he never found out anything further.

FIRST EDIT: In light of new information, changed “African” to “Polynesian.” Would like to learn about what it means as well as where it’s from.

SECOND EDIT: Added more hashtags, as suggested.

This is a great project with a wonderful editor. I highly recommend working with him if you’re at all inclined to share something you create!

I’ve been in the Comingle beta for a few weeks now, and oh wow how good this is for my heart and soul as well as my financial situation. It’s not much per week—going out or coming in—but just the fact that we’re really doing this feels incredible, plus even these little bits help me breathe (and eat, and attend to my health) easier. So far I’m receiving more than I give, which fills me with gratitude for people I will likely never know, but I feel balanced about it because I might someday be able to provide for others as I have been provided for. 🥲 It’s a whole different way of thinking. More of this type of thing for the world, please. 💚

Soooo this book came into the shop today. 🤭

• Settling in well for a horsesitting stint (which also includes feeding deer, a cat, birds, and plants)

• Randomly seeing a friend on his birthday, same as last year, and sharing a couple of good solid hugs

• Peacefulness

“The Icelandic writer and environmental activist Andri Snær Magnason traces both his love of storytelling and his concern for the natural world back to his grandparents. Amateur explorers, they volunteered on scientific expeditions to the Vatnajökull ice cap, even setting off the day after their wedding in 1956. Their stories, and the footage filmed by Magnason’s grandfather, shaped Magnason’s imagination and, later, his sense of urgency about climate change.

“In this film by Emergence Magazine, the California-based filmmakers Adam Loften and Emmanuel Vaughan-Lee follow Magnason as he returns to Vatnajökull with his son, retracing his grandparents’ journey. Weaving together the family’s archival footage with present-day images of Magnason and his son at the ice cap, the film makes stark the dramatic changes that have taken place over the past seven decades. Throughout, the film shows how stories move us in a way that abstract ideas and data cannot . . . .”
