Sometimes only the phone can capture the picture, like when carrying a macro lens on camera.

"Hey, chicken! You're lucky I only shoot with a camera!"
Saw two Ruffed Grouse on the trails today, who let me get way closer than they should during hunting season.

We are still in the Indian Summer weather pattern.
The red leaves are down, carpeting the forest floor.
The yellows are dominating now.

Not all that glitters is gold: I assume this is Fool's Gold, in Quartz (let me know if I'm wrong 😉).
Small amounts of gold can be found here, I've been told, so you never know...

Driving up North today.
Cobre Lake is a must see this time of year.

Favourite tiny (1 mm) find on a decomposing log: Blue-stain Fungus aka Green Elfcup or Turquoise Wood Cup or... (Chlorociboria) - this beautiful fungus has changed names too often to keep track.

A small, bright green spot on a tree caught my attention: Flat-leaved Scalewort (Radula complanata), a liverwort.
Ancient, tiny plants.

Cold wind from the Arctic.
Clean air.
Safe travels!
Canada Geese on the wing.

The Striped Maple tree aka Moosewood (Acer pensylvanicum) is my favourite maple tree. It seems to be a mast year for them: so many little helicopter nuts on this small tree!
Wildlife should be happy about this abundant food source.

A Bald Eagle gave me a couple seconds to snap a photo.
Wrong settings, as usual, since I was looking for lichens.

Hike to a hidden old beaver pond.
Fall colours! 😍

The Common Inkcap aka Tippler's Bane (Coprinopsis atramentaria).
The first name refers to its usage for ink.
The second name refers to its toxicity with alcohol.
Nothing to eat, but pretty nonetheless.

I baked some "пампушки" (Ukrainian garlic bread, Pampuschki) to serve with the onion soup.
A rich bread! Yum.

The Loon I came close to today while kayaking may have been this year's young one. Loons are molting right now, and this one left me with a feather floating to the kayak.
One more for my collection of Loon feathers 😊.
