If you made an industrial robot and sent it out in the street and it killed someone holy shit you would be in trouble.
But with this one trick you can evade all responsibility and criminal liability:
Just make your killer robot look like a car.
Oh. and be sure to put a human in it so they can take the blame if you kill someone, it's called a "morality crumple zone". It doesn't matter who, they're just a sacrificial lamb anyway.
Bloddy hell.
LibreOffice says ‘no AI’ is now a software feature
If you’re looking for a document editor that doesn’t use artificial intelligence, LibreOffice may be just the software for you.
The Document Foundation, the nonprofit software maker behind the open source document editor LibreOffice, said in a blog post this week that while it does not reject AI out of hand, it “will not add” AI to its software for the foreseeable future.
The blog post comes weeks after the release of the latest version of LibreOffice in late August, in which the nonprofit reiterated that the software “contains no generative AI features.”
LibreOffice said at the time that this was a “deliberate design position” to ensure that users’ documents are not uploaded to a server for processing and that no part of the software requires a network connection to function. The nonprofit added that its software is used by tens of millions of people and organizations, and that users should retain control over their data.
“Any organisation handling confidential, legally privileged or personal data needs to know where that data goes, and the only assurance that survives an audit is that it does not leave the machine,” the organization said.
LibreOffice says users can still choose to use AI tools by installing software extensions that connect the document editor to local AI models.

I'm talking about evolutionary fitness: how well we fit our environment.
Climactic change in Africa forced our ancestors to fend for themselves in the savannah, where they couldn't just climb a tree to escape a predator. They were pushed to the very edge of extinction until they compensated by increasing their brain size. It was a huge gamble. For a billion years no other species was successful in harnessing intelligence as a survival strategy. We just didn't have any other choice and we got extremely lucky to slip through a very narrow bottleneck.
Still using Scala 2? We are happy to announce that Scala 2.13 and 2.12 will now be maintained by VirtusLab. See blog post for details: https://scala-lang.org/blog/scala2-maintenance.html

Voyager has traveled 15 billion miles and still sent data and communicated by radio signal on 69 KB of programming but this one website tab is using 348 MB and we are totally happy with that sure this is fine.
Unsere Webseite ist endlich online... klein aber fein.

Wow setup #gentoo on lvm and with efistub directly made me learn a plathora about efi. And it was really easy to get up and running. And the binary packages are imho really neat. Yeah i know not 100% gentoo style but i like it to decide if i want to compile or not
Are you a fan of Emacs? Matei Candea, an Emacs user and social anthropologist at Cambridge University (UK), is looking for potential interviewees for a research project on Emacs, its users and its community. If you're interested in talking about Emacs, drop Matei a line at mc288@cam.ac.uk.
For more information, see https://www.candea.org.

@gustav Happy to report that uxnfloppy works on my laptop with the Pentium II 333MHz processor!
At least the Amiga bouncing ball demo does, I haven't yet tried the others, but am about to do that
Wise words (as always) from Bruce Schneier: "Once we normalize a surveillance infrastructure, both friends and foes will take advantage of it." https://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2026/10/unidentified-flock-cameras-in-florida.html
@m3tti @weavejester I have the theory that expressive DSLs and thorough docs would make LLMs obsolete. People find AI useful when the only explanation about how something works is an arcane blob of 5000 lines of spaghetti Javascript.
