Workers in IT have historically enjoyed a lot of leverage over their employers, there was a rather high demand for people that knew their way around computers, networking, programming etc and a growing number of companies were using technology or even becoming full on IT companies

that has changed. the market is now saturated with people working in IT, and also with companies that use technology and require IT somewhere in their continued existence

but because of their already-good position with leverage over their employers in the past, the IT sector never unionized, so now that they'd desperately need it, IT workers don't have the leverage anymore.

Just imagine for a moment what would happen if the IT workers of the world unionized. Imagine for a moment if even just 25% of the entire workforce striked. Hell would freeze over. companies would cease functioning. We could have so much leverage but we don't.
