🍂 The wind and rain of the last 24 hours pushed the weak leaves to their final fall. They saturate the walking path.

👎 Replacing words with symbols on new Apple keyboards reduces usability.

I do have empathy for people who are economically gated from accepting these responsibilities due to personal hardship.

That is not what I’m talking about. The people I get mad at are in environments where that is not a factor.

👎 I’m so disappointed when I see smart, critical thinkers talk about getting out of jury duty with some kind of playful remark.

I’ve sat on two juries. One was civil and the other criminal.

Giving my time to those cases (it was about a week each) was probably some of the most substantial ways I’ve given back to my community I’ve ever made.

🔗 “I’ve been growing into the hot take that good user experience alone should absolutely never be the deciding factor for critical services. Don't be held hostage by a single big corporation from the other side of the world.”

📕 The Elixir Book Club is currently soliciting book suggestions for our next choice.

I wonder what might be a good non-code, non-AI book to read that might encourage critical thinking about how we apply AI to our work.

Thinking In Systems comes to mind as something that might spark interesting conversations.

Any other books you suggest? #ElixirLang

👨‍💻 AI is constantly pushing me to resolve race conditions related to real-time LiveView pages (assume multiple people editing the resource), time zone concerns related to Havana transition day `AmbiguousDateTime`, and database `FOR SHARE` locks to help with data integrity.

In one breath, these are great observations that will make more resilient software.

In another breath, I feel like I know how my software will be used, and this extra code/complexity feels like an unnecessary weight.

🤪 All due respect, Wawa needs to stay in their lane.

🎧 I recorded a podcast with my friends from PhillyCocoa. We talked about my transition from iOS to #ElixirLang and, more so, my recent interest in #local-first software.

🫠 Had to get blood drawn for labs this morning. Went welll but stresses me out big time.

Huge win I did not faint.

✏️ I updated my now page.

I like to think of a Now page as the things I’d share if you were an old friend, we saw each other, and you asked, “What’s going on?” What are you working on? What are you excited about?

💜 A favor to ask: I'm looking for introductions to land Elixir consulting work. To help get in front of new faces, I have a "one problem, two weeks, $6,000" offer on my consulting page.

Aimed at one nagging thing: a flaky test suite, a stalled upgrade, a Sentry backlog. The debt that falls on the floor of a busy team. If you like the work, we keep going.

If you know a team it might suit, a share or an intro would mean a lot. 🙏 #ElixirLang #FediHire

🤔 The lease documents you sign as a renter are so overreaching, but it feels like there is nothing you can do. They are all like this from my limited experience.

👨‍💻 The world was a better place when we put dust covers over the computer at the end of the day.

🦌 Lawn manicure being done on a Sunday morning.

😬 One of my main displays has started flickering. Tried a power cycle and changing the Thunderbolt cables, but it still persists.

Ugh.

🤔 🥞 Do the pancakes increase or decrease confidence in the hub?

✅ Today's Goals:

- More blog infrastructure work. Trying to improve metadata, share card visuals, and search engine indexing.
- Run the Claude `/doctor` skill and otherwise update some of my AI metadata.
- Work on LocalCents cleanup work. Removing unused components and general tidy-up work before shaping the next epic.
- Do a 45m sales safari session.
- Phillies play during the afternoon. I'll probably have them on the radio while I work.
- Evening: Maybe a movie?
