Greek islands are becoming industrial tourist complexes for selling sea and sun. During off-season whole villages are 'closed' and abandoned. The cost of keeping a store open is just too high to sustain. For those living there during winter there are only few places they can go to for entertainment or to socialize.
Thus our islands are becoming uninhabitable by locals. Their value is ever more measured in tourist infrastructure investments (usually by foreign investors or large development companies).
According to a recent legislation in Greece the administration of all the beaches is passed from the municipalities to the so-called 'growth fund', which is the legacy of the Troika to Greece during the years of the financial crisis. This fund will mortgage the present and future movable and immovable property of the Greek State for 99 years.
