My goodness, I used to get a newsletter from Casey Newton just to see what I thought was what the “soft-pro AI” caucus were saying, just for perspective but I now see they are all in. It’s a religion. Sad.

I know this year has been shit but on a more positive note I’ve just discovered a store near work stocks #Vimto.

I’ve lived in Sweden for many years, but my Swedish is still imperfect. I sometimes use translation programs for words outside my experience but know enough to get suspicious. There was a multiple vehicle pile-up north of Gävle today. It was described as a “kökrock” on SVT. Translate software said it meant “Cook’s Apron/Jacket”. I assumed it meant “covered in mess” or a similar idiom. Contacted my Swedish ex & she laughed. It was kö-krock “queue-collision” rather than kök-rock “cook-jacket”. 🙄

I know The Guardian is not everyone’s cup of tea but their “Kindness of Strangers” section is really uplifting and worth a look.

Lycka till alla som vill ha #vaccination mot covid/influensa. Man kan inte boka en tid online bara via telefonsamtal som är helt upptagen. Jag gick även till vårdcentralen för att boka ”face to face” men ”tyvärr” man kan bara boka via telefon. Jag tänker mestadels Sveriges system fungerar ganska bra men ibland…

What the hell is going on at #fosstodon ? Most of the people I know on there are really nice. Is it some noisy fash minority trashing the instance’s reputation? I hope that the mods get given time to take out the trash as it would be a shame if the whole thing went to hell. I’m low-information on this so accurate, balanced information on this would be appreciated.
