Only #Microsoft could be so stupid as to break the cursor (insertion point) in Notepad. FFS.
I really, really like this client I'm working with at the moment except for the fact they're a Microsoft-house and so I'm having to use all kinds of incredibly substandard tech, like #Windows, #Teams, #Outlook, #OneDrive, ... 🤮
I coded a series of optical illusions with CSS and created a small site to showcase them: https://alvaromontoro.github.io/CSS-Optical-Illusions/

Oh this is too funny...
I don't understand how some apps can, in 2025, implement both a light theme and a dark theme, but no "follow system" option. It's super annoying.
(I also can't understand why #firefox does not provide a native way of selecting a theme for light mode and dark mode 🤷♂️ )
Yesterday was the best day (recently) to re-boost this letter. Today is the second-best day to do so (sorry for the delay).
Wow. I did not see this coming.
Great to read that #TypeScript 7 is ready to use for type checking and brings a massive speed improvement!

Sweet Jesus people, STOP popping up tips about new or updated features WHILE I'M TRYING TO GET SOMETHING $#&*$# DONE. (I'm looking at you Microsoft.) FFS, was trying to schedule a meeting on Teams (client requires it), and I had to dismiss four different stupid informational things at four different times. Just put a notifications icon somewhere and I'll click it IF and WHEN I'm @#$# interested in seeing what you have to say.

This is obvious, but if people broadly rely on a black box to give them answers that help them understand the world, whoever controls the black box controls those answers and therefore the understanding that comes from them.
Openness is safety.
@hazz223 I ask because `string & {__brand: "x"}` is a way of creating a *branded* type, a string (in this case) that you can't assign just any string to without a type assertion. (For instance, supposed you use string GUIDs for different kinds of IDs, and you don't want to accidentally assign an ID of one type to a parameter of another. Branded types is *one* way of making that less likely.) But it seems weird as a *parameter* type.
“When we talk about the unfair practices and harm done by training large language models, we usually talk about it in the past tense: how they were trained on other people’s creative work without permission. But this is an ongoing problem that’s just getting worse.
