#homeassistant saves the day again by my pool-pump-using-no-power alert firing. The alert on my phone prompted an investigation. I discovered that some child malarkey had led to the pump inlet feed being blocked. All better now.
Weekend job: Fixing the dodgy join in the pool robot cable. Currently printing a mould to cast the join in resin for waterproofiness. A new cable is AUD$172. I'll try to save this one first.
I love getting my phone out to find it's been having a fun pocket adventure. Wifi hotspot and torch are on. Brightness on max. Language set to Croatian.
This feels like the first good rain we've had in ages. #brisbaneweather
Has anyone got any first-hand experience with rechargeable 1.5v AA form-factor liion batteries? Are they any good? Are they better than traditional rechargeable AA batteries?
Y'honour this is why I have a set of scales that go down to 10mg: Avoiding arguments about who got more nerds.
We got our first invoice with our new energy retailer, Covau. It was $29 in the black, so I emailed them asking about the process to cash out the credit, as we've done in the past with Amber and Localvolts. Their response:
> Upon reviewing your account, we can confirm that the credit balance currently showing is a solar credit. Please note that, unfortunately, solar credits are non-refundable and cannot be paid out as a refund.
Ahahah for real? It's just funny money?
Time for a new retailer.
Has anyone seen that 3.5mm to 6.35mm audio adaptor I've had sitting in a random box from 2005?
Quick macos question: If screenshot directory, why screenshot go to desktop by default?
Unserious.
Somehow I appear to have removed safari from my work mac. I don't know how. It's not in the app search thing.
I rebooted and it came back???
Unserious OS.
I am learning morse code. My wife is *disgusted* I'm not using a traditional straight key for sending. She says I'm doing it wrong.
Other professions should have distinctive hats. Chefs get all the glory.
Ooer! Valheim 1.0! I might update my server and my boys and I can start a fresh world. In the past there was some wonk involved in world migration between major versions. Not sure if that's fixed.
HOLY SHIT THEY HAVE A CHICK ALREADY.
They must've nested somewhere else and migrated back to their usual spot once the chicks hatched. Only one seems to have survived so far. Looks less than a week old.
THE CURLEWS ARE BACK. WOOO.
Curlew watch 2026 begins.
Do I seriously not have a 10mm drill bit?
Currently trying to cross as many Ts and dot as many lower case Is before I end my 8+ year tenure at my current job.
Pretty strong anxiety. All the muscle memory for passwords, URLs, file paths, etc are going to become instantly redundant. All my knowledge of the codebases and products: useless.
I've been through this once before. The badfeels are mostly offset from the freedom that comes from not having to worry about the "We should fix that one day" things.
Hm, how bad is it that this low-severity FOSS web service stores its passwords as "md5(<uid>+<public hash>+md5(<password>))"
My wife dared me to swallow a hard-boiled egg whole. Almost managed it, but then it came back up. Nearly went flying. Cannot recommend.
Anyone got a hot tip for buying 1.6mm 306 stainless wire in Australia? I need about 6kg. I'm currently buying 15m/230g rolls from Bunnings at $15 a pop. austainless.au has a 16kg spool of 316, for $540, which is more economical but I don't need that much and I'd prefer to match the alloy if possible.
